    Drugstore Diva: Embrace Moi...

GillettevenusembraceWell...I have to tell you that I have used the same brand of razor for YEARS.  I mean since 2000...I am like that with certain things.  I find something that works THE BEST and I stick with it, then I am infinitely crushed when it is discontinued or changed in some way grrrrrrr.  So I figured before that happened, it may be a good idea to venture out into the world of razors to see what I have been missing.

Razors in general get more and more advanced every year, just standing in the aisle at Target had me scratching my head.  Three blades, four blades...built in shaving cream sheesh!  The one that stood out to me the most was the Gillette Venus Embrace, as it had FIVE BLADES...my goodness!! So that had to be the closest shave ever - right?  I took it home and gave it a spin.

The handle is made of this soft gel like grippy substance and it's very easy to grip (we all know how easy it is to drop things in the shower...LOL) and the 5 blades DEFINITELY made a difference as far as the closeness of the shave.  It also has a little holder that you can suction cup to your shower that will hold your refills.  Brilliant!  As far as what you use to shave with, I normally use hair conditioner or a creamy body wash but this time I picked up the Satin Care Alluring Avocado shaving gel which uses avocado oil as a softener.  I haven't had much luck with products like this in the past but this one smelled great and worked very well on the bikini line which is where I do most of my shaving.  I had absolutely NO irritation or redness which was a FIRST  for me, none on the underarms as well.  SCORE!!!

Now I just have to hope they keep it around for a while because this one is a keeper.

I'm not hating AT all. I want to make that clear. But I read a lot of the beauty blogs and it seems that in the past week or two a few of them have posted about this exact shaver. All I am saying is that if you don't buy the product don't make it sound like you did. I love your blog but if it really is coincidence that many of you wrote about this product then forgive me. :)

    Hi Lor...

You don't have to say you are "not hating"...LOL. Clearly you are bothered...and that's fine. I am not sure really... why I am responding to your query but I am nonetheless so here goes.

I actually went looking for the Venus Embrace after I read Beauty Addict's review about it. I had already seen the ads, haven't you seen the ads/commercials for this razor everywhere? I feel what you are saying, I really do but when companies release products they hit the stores nationwide at the same time, so any one of the beauty bloggers out there could have bought it and reviewed it at the same time. In addition, the information that we provide the readers has to be current so what would be the point of me reviewing the product 1-2 months after it comes out? Print magazines follow the same schedule also, a product comes out - they feature it when it hits. I could have held my review but then the information wouldn't have been current or relevant for that matter.

Also, even though I am an Independent Beauty Editor, I am still a consumer that reads magazines and blogs just like you do. I read about things and run out and buy them after I hear Beauty Addict or All About The Pretty or any number of blogs that I read if they like the products. I still spend what I spend on beauty products and shop just like you do. Thanks for your comment though...

Hey thanks for responding, I really appreciate it. I was saying that I wasn't "hating" because I hate when people take time to write blogs and then people comment negatively. I really didn't want to come out sounding rude. Thanks for writing back and telling me how it is. I guess sometimes I'm so cheap its hard to believe someone would spend more than $3 or $4 on a shaver. lol. I really like your blog. keep up the good work.
