    Non-Invasive Plastic Surgery & Aging....

Hello dolls...As we speak I am getting ready to leave for the train station bound for NYC.  This afternoon,  I am interviewing a top physician in NYC to get answers on the topic of "non-invasive plastic surgery techniques and aging"  I want to know what the top procedures are, how women prepare for them, how does the doctor know when to say "NO" to to much or too many etc etc.

I know you all know that I think I could benefit from a good shot of Botox right between the eyes but how do YOU feel about your face?  Would you do one of the new trendy procedures aimed at reducing lines and wrinkles? If you leave me some questions in the comments section, I will try and incorporate them into the interview.

    Stay Pretty!!

I have a question! Is botox permanent or is it a procedure that you will need to have done over and over again, particularly if you have had it once? Meaning, when it wears off, will your wrinkles be worse?

    Thanks Lianne :)

I have a question for the doctor. What's the best way to get the smoothest skin possible? My skin has some mild scarring from acne, and is a little bumpy. Are their any alternatives to Retin A (my skin is too sensitive) for skin smoothness?

Also, if he has any celebrity patients, can you ask him if their skin is any different than the average American? What do they have access to that we don't?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Betsey,

We were on a very tight schedule and I was only scheduled to speak to the doctor about non-invasive methods like injectibles. Sorry I couldn't work your questions in.

    Hi!

I think you mean non-'INvasive' plastic surgery?

    Love your blog, btw =)

To Marsadie: Botox is something that you have to get done over and over again. Botulinum toxin (the main ingredient) is injected into the muscles near the wrinkles and the muscles, as a result, become paralyzed and stretched out since wrinkes are due to muscle contraction and Botox prevents that (that's why so many hollywood stars can't do facial expressions right after botox and you can often tell who has gotten it done... their muscles of facial expression are temporarily paralyzed). I imagine that as with any drug, your body develops a sort of tolerance to botox as well and you probably need more and more of it over a period of time to get the desired result and the wrinkles will probably also get deeper.

Also, to Betsey: I think the best way to take care of bumps is with exfoliation and microderm abrasion therapy. The best way to get rid of acne scarring without using Vitamin A is to use products that contain Hydroquinone. If you need stronger Hydroquinone, you can get a prescription from your doctor =)

I'm no expert, by any means, but I'm a 3rd year medical student and this is what we've learned so far!

    Nosh,

Thank you so much for providing your med school experience. It would seem that I should also thank you for my much needed grammar lesson! Damn spell check will get you everytime!!

    Marsadie,

I asked the doctor your question directly and contrary to what Nosh said in an earlier comment, Botox does not make wrinkles worse/deeper. You do have to maintain your results with injections at certain intervals. According to the doctor, if you start out with Botox as a first timer you usually use quite a bit to achieve your desired result, BUT as time goes on, you will need less and less of the product because it is actually "training your facial muscles from doing unconscious habitual movements". She told me that those are what cause wrinkles and when the muscles are relaxed and you can't do it as often the wrinkles decrease. She did also say that everyone varies and that extreme cases ala Nicole Kidman where you look like a zombie with no facial expressions are rare and very much requested often by patients but hardly ever complied with by doctors.

Hey Lianne, thanks for taking my suggestions. I really didn't wanna sound like a know-it-all cuz I'm not :P I clearly still have a lot to learn =) I see Botox as a drug and I guess I shouldn't have typed out my theory without reading up on it first.

What the doctor told you about habitual movements is really interesting!! I will have to do me some more research on the subject! =D

Thanks so much for the information!!

I just wanted to add... Botox is a neurotoxin and although it's not lethal, it can be dangerous, so I advise everyone to do a lot of research on the drug and also to find a reliable before they decide to use it!

    reliable *DOCTOR*... oops

Okay I am done spamming the wall now :-[ Sorrryyy!

Hi Lianne, I am a long time reader and avid lurker but I had to comment o this one! I am very interested in injectibles and would love to hear what the doctor had to say, I am 37 and considering doing some "maintenenace", so I am looking forward to what you found out.

Also, I really wish people would keep their comments to themselves especially if they don't know what they are talking about. There is enough misinformation on the internet as it is, we come here to find out the scoop not listen to a med student spout theories.
