Awww Helll Nawww!!: Tyra Banks as Michelle Obama??

Okay...there is no denying that Tyra Banks is GAWGUS.  Or that she is  a savvy model/businesswoman/rising mogul.  Her modeling photo shoots and magazine spreads are legendary to say the least.  She put curvy models back on the map back in the day.  Now...if you watch her show you know that Ty Ty loves her some transformations (remember when she went undercover as the stripper?  How about the fat suit?) so it comes as no surprise to me that she has insinuated herself into the role of first lady elect Michelle Obama in the upcoming September issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Michelle and Barack Obama are no doubt on everyone's radar and yes she is a very stylish woman.  But I am sure you will agree that she isn't the first stylish woman to assume the role of first lady.

Now don't get me wrong, I think it's a nice enough idea (even if it does seem a bit strange) but the hi-jacked recreation of the famous  JFK oval office photo complete with child peeking out from under the desk is well....just weird.  You can see all of the photos by clicking here.

Awww Helll Nawww!!!: Deodorant on Your Hairline??

I have loved Allure Magazine for as long as I can remember....each month when it arrives in my mailbox it's like a little treat from heaven...I usually finish the entire magazine within 2 days at least.  You would think that for as long as I have been in this business my obsession with all things beauty would've worn thin by now...but it never ceases to amaze me.....if I get one little pearl of beauty know-how that I'd never heard of before it will be worth the entire magazine...

BUT the real reason I wanted to post was to share some gems in the June issue with Jessica Alba on the cover (BTW...doesn't she look amazing??)  They did a great story on page 166 called "Body Heat" and it was all about keeping your cool in the summer heat....they asked various women who have to brave the elements outside on a daily basis for their careers how they manage to stay beautiful....and heres the kicker:

Lynn Martin "The Cheerleader" for the Miami Dolphins is definitely a pro...but here's my Aww Hell Naww!!!  She says before every performance, "I apply Ban Invisible Solid Antiperspirant to my hairline, It stops the sweat from dripping into your face"  What the hell???!!!!?? 

Are you kidding me? Being a southern girl myself, perspiring (or as we like to call it, glistening) during cook-outs and pool parties in the summer months is a reality......Lynn's trick does seem quite ingenious but how in the hell? Wouldn't you get chunks of deodorant in your hair...eeewwwww!!!!

St. Patrick's Day approacheth lassies!!  So you want to decorate your most prizes possession right?? Awww Helll Nawww!!: Amy Winehouse to Launch Cosmetics Line?????

Okay okay....y'all know I love Amy as much as the next person but a cosmetics line??  C'mon people...it looks like she uses a sharpie for her eyeliner.  I like the look for her...it's a gimmick - I get it.  But if I see every teenage girl wandering around with this getup I think I will scream.

From The Sun UK:

The news emerged yesterday as Amy, 24, modeled the look — including a leopard-print scarf atop her matted beehive and cig stuck to her lip.

The range will include hairspray, but the signature piece is set to be the heavy liquid eyeliner the Rehab singer has made famous.

She has a meeting scheduled for later this week to discuss the project with fashion and cosmetics experts.

A pal revealed yesterday: Amy’s style has been copied by girls around the country and there’s a lot of money to be made. It’s a very distinctive look.

She wants to bring out a range of cosmetics and fashion products. There could be hairspray, head scarves, liquid eyeliner, perfume. All the things that are distinctive of her look.  A fashion industry source added: I think this stuff would sell very well in London. "She has become a fashion icon despite not always looking too fresh."

Awww Helll Nawww: Gary Busey Attacks Jennifer Garner on the Red Carpet...

One of the more entertaining moments of the Red Carpet last night was seeing the lovely Laura Linney and Jennifer Garner get attacked by has-been actor Gary Busey.  He politely (putting that very mildly as he was clearly impaired in some way) said hello to Ms. Linney but then proceeded to practically suck on poor Jennifer Garner's neck and mess up her hair by grabbing her in a bear hug embrace twice (where is your husband...when you need him geez...).  They were both clearly freaked out scared and annoyed....wouldn't you be??

Awww Helll Nawww!!!: Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe???

 

Well she finally did it - she took all of her clothes off.  I know that the poor girl has had a tough year and I really like ole Lindsay...I think she is a pretty good actress.  But c'mon people, was this honestly necessary?  I know that lots of folks do nudes to jump start their careers (hello...Sharon Stone did Playboy and it put her on the map).  I am just feeling like I have already seen just a little more of Lindsay than I would like to.

I can't help but think that if she stayed home and worked on her acting or something instead of getting naked and going to clubs to drink 'water'...that might be better than throwing her naked self into the glossy pages of New York Magazine.  Don't get me wrong...she looks amazing and surprisingly healthy, and the legendary Bert Stern did a great job at re-creating that last Marilyn photo shoot he did over 40 years ago.  I just feel kind of ehhhh about the whole thing.

MyHeritage is a crazy website where not only can you use tools to trace your family tree - but they also have this thingy where you can morph into a celeb OR find your celeb look alike.  I did the look alike thing last year and was less than pleased with the results...LOL

Awww Helll Naw!!: Foxy Brown Gets Arrested Wearing Aqua Shadow...

Okay...I really liked Foxy Brown.  In the 90's - her CD's Ill Na Na and Chyna Doll were in heavy rotation at my house.  She was really young too - I think and I also think she had better skills than Lil' Kim.  BUT...for some reason...she kept throwing banana peels in front of herself for the next decade and her career was never able to recover.

This former Jay-Z protege has been arrested on numerous occasions, mostly for stupid things (not that getting arrested in general isn't stupid..but I digress). She has been in the silver bracelets for such things as spitting on hotel workers, attacking manicurists, throwing hair glue, sticking out her tongue at judges and well...you get the picture.  And as you can see from the mugshot, being arrested is so so unpretty.

Her latest run in with the law has her ensconced at the illustrious Riker's Island, one of New York states largest jails.  She has pissed off the judge so badly that she will remain there until her September 5 hearing for allegedly beating the crap out of her neighbor with her Blackberry which was a violation of her probation.  Oh and uh she is also 3 months pregnant....sigh.

Awww Helll Naw!!: Lindsay Lohan On The Cover of Elle...

Okay okay...I think get it.  These people are trying to sell magazines right??  Not actually report fashion and beauty trends.  Why else would they put one of the most undeserving actresses on the cover of the biggest issue of the year?  My impression of La Lohan is that she comes from an unfortunate parental nest.  Her parents are only a few years older than I am so they were probably out partying instead of parenting while poor Lindsay was out there bringing home the bacon.

Even my girl Julia is saying, "What The Elle??".  I don't have anything against the child but my thing is, don't glamorize what she is doing...show some responsibility in your reporting.  Poor thing was obviously lying in the magazine's interview when she said,  "They’re looking for me, to like trip, so they can be like, ‘Oh Lindsay’s wasted and driving drunk.’ And that’s not it. I wouldn’t violate….I’m much more responsible than that."  Obviously not, she was arrested again on July 24th.

The pictures look great but like all of the other uninteresting "starlets" that have graced the covers of my favorite magazines lately, I just have no interest in reading what she has to say. Her answers are one sided and contradictory to her behavior when she is out in public.  I understand that the pressure must be insane - but jeez get a driver if you are going to be out running around drinking...not like you don't have the dough...come on.

So on that note, I hope she gets it together but I am tired of seeing all of this mess on the cover of fashion magazines.  Like I said before with Paris and Nicole, If I wanted to see them in my mailbox, I would have a subscription to US Weekly.

Awww Helll Naw!!: Lauryn Hill Please Come Back To Us...

Lauryn Hill has been performing around lately and the reviews are mixed.  Some say she sounds on point and focused while others say she is still a few cards short of a full deck.  This lovely and accomplished woman who brought us a brilliant solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, is looking a little less than lovely these days.

I understand stage makeup and that you need to wear more when you are on stage but this much and this bright....no no no Ms. Lauryn.  I prefer the polished confident and sexy look of yesterday.  I am not really sure what is going on with her but I am going to need her to get it together because we need more brilliant singer songwriters like her.

I am hoping that she is going through some kind of phase and that the music will speak for itself.  But for now...not pretty.

Awww Helll Nawww: Paris & Nicole on Harper's Bazaar...

Okay I did a similar post on the old blog where I wrote a letter to Glenda Bailey, editor in chief of Harper's Bazaar.  Basically the jist of it was..."leave the gossip and fodder for the tabloids and cover fashion & beauty like you are supposed to..."  Well they are at it again...this time Paris and Nicole are on the cover together...with dogs no less.  Are dogs no longer pets and fashion accessories now?? (I know...I know...don't answer that...)  Didn't these girls hate each other a minute ago?  Aren't they addicted to something?  Isn't one of them on the way to the pokey??  Are these the images we want our daughters and nieces to see??

I understand that we live in a celebrity soaked culture but I honestly think that glorifying people for doing nothing but going to parties, flashing thier vajayjay's and shopping is a very dangerous thing.  If you are going to put someone other than a model on the cover of your magazine, make sure they stand for something.  An actress who happens to be an activist, a writer...a painter SOMEBODY...ANYBODY but these two.  If I wanted to see Paris and Nicole in my mailbox, I would have a subscription to US Weekly.

Best & Worst: Golden Globes Awards...

Okay...like many of you, I was watching at home last night and I must say - there weren't too many slip-ups.  But the ones that I did see were doosies!!  Now, here's my thing...if you are being paid millions of dollars to entertain the public at large, then you gosh darn better show up looking like perfection when you go to these awards shindigs.  Now is NOT the time to experiment with that new hairpiece, wig, weave or whatever.  Nor is it the time to try a new beauty service (hellooo remember that episode of Sex in the City and that chemical peel??)  Just keep it simple and elegant.

Here are my picks for best hair and makeup...

Jennifer Lopez...no surprise here she is pretty much on point most of the time.  Here she does a subtle smokey eye with a 60's inspired up-do and a off the shoulder gown...Classic.

Another favorite is Salma Hayek who just gets more gorgeous as she gets older.  She always plays up her features and sticks to a basic smoldering smokey eye formula.  Her hair was in soft waves  and she wore a white gown with lots of wrap detail.

Jennifer Hudson just sparkled with rich deep burgundy lips and a shimmery eye - perfect red carpet debut!!

Angelina Jolie looked amazing with her trademark cat eyed look and simple updo.

Honorable mention goes to Hillary Swank for that gorgeous diamond hair accessory (50 diamonds in all!) and Jessica Biel for managing to look like she just woke up looking super sexy and tan and threw something on before hopping in the limo.

Awww Hellll Naw: My Celebrity Look Alikes...

Okay I was inspired by Butta from Butta On... to do this again.  The first time I did the celebrity look alike thing over at My Heritage a few years back, there was not ONE sista in the group...not one. 

At least this time they gave me Gabrielle Union and Garcelle Beauvais, but c'mon people I don't even look like either of those women and I sure as heck don't look like Christina Ricci or Courtney Cox-Arquette.  Not one bit.  So personally I think the face recognition software is a bunch of hooey but go over there and check it out for yourself.

Awww Helll Naw: Baby Phat Edition...

Well she finally managed to do it.  Kimora Lee Simmons finally managed to make me look at her sideways like a confused dog.  I have never had issues with her designs from the Baby Phat line, although they were a little young for my taste at first.  She has really stepped her game up because the clothes look great.  That is not my issue...my issue is the fact that she put grillz on all the models in her show this past September 8th. 

Now call me crazy, but it seems to me that if you want to be taken seriously as a designer (and she could have been because this is the best collection they have put out to date) you don't mess around with something that is so very much a novelty item.  Grillz are so much so the novelty item that songs have been made about them. The most recent proof that grillz are R.I.P 2006 is Brooke Hogan daughter of wrestling great Hulk Hogan gyrating around in her music video with Paul Wall ...they are both wearing them....nice.  Grillz are so last year and seriously, they have no business under the tents at Bryant Park. 

The models couldn't even close their mouths...poor girl looks like Frankenstein. Thanks to my partners over at Coutorture for the photo.

One thing I will say is the makeup looked great.  I love the whole faux-hawk 80's thing they had going on.  The eyes had that whole silver smokey eye thing I was talking about the other day.  The skin was flawless and the eyes look really bright.  So kudos to the team that put that look together.  But as far as grillz go, I will have to emphatically say that I will not be rocking anything like that anytime soon.
