Sneek Peek: MAC Mattene Slimline Lipsticks...

Macmattene_2

Simply GORGEOUS!!  I have always loved the look of matte lips, but it was always so dry...so cakey.  Well say hello to a new matte lip.  MAC's newest creation called Mattene is like a lipstick revolution.  It's more like satin but with the long wear of matte...the best of both worlds!!  The look is more modern and comfortable than the matte lipsticks of yesterday.

Matte lips were a STAPLE in the 90's, you couldn't go anywhere or look at any music video without seeing them and they look beautiful but after a while we got...um tired.  Matte lipstick was traditionally very heavy dry and cakey and you would need to re-apply after a few hours.  Not so here.  This lipstick truly feels weightless and lasts for hours (I have had mine on for at least 4 hours today and I tell you...it still looks fresh).  Half of the shades are matte ... the others are semi-matte

The Rundown:

Poise  Clean yellow pink (Semi-Matte)
Composure
  Neutral bronze plum (Semi-Matte)
Flattering
  Beige pink (Semi-Matte)
Café Matte
  Rich caramel (Semi-Matte)
Orange Dare
  Bright yellow orange (Semi-Matte)
Seriously Rich
  Bright pink red (Semi-Matte)
Immodest
  Bright magenta (Semi-Matte)
Night Violet
Deep purple grape (Semi-Matte)
40’s Pink
  Neutral mid-tone dirty pink
All Grown Up
  Deep chocolate brown
Tango
  Dirty coral
You Say Tomato
  Tomato red
Classic Dame
  Blood red
Rapturous
Deep red berry
Powersuit
  Vibrant clean yellow pink
Rougette
  Wine berry

Mattene_ambient_l

My favorite colors are Cafe Matte, Rougette, Poise, Rapturous, Night Violet & All Grown Up.  The slimline packaging and slanted tip makes it super easy to use (and slide in your bag or pocket!)and the texture...man oh MAN!.  It's not up on the website yet (be patient!) but If you can't wait, you can check the swatches over at Christine's Temptalia site. This will be on MAC counters October 4th and on MAC's website.

Day Spa At Home...

Borghese_sali I love going to the spa, but I love being able to do things at home as well.  Many of you know that I used to work for Borghese, love their products (I still use the Fango).  I recently tried one of their newest additions called Sali Esfoliante Salt Scrub.  This creamy scrub does not disappoint.

What is loved about it was that creaminess....most salt scrubs are well... salty and grainy feeling.  Don't misunderstand me...there is some grainy feeling just not as much as most scrubs.  The apothecary jar looks gorgeous in the bathroom and the signature herbal scent had me feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Available at Bloomgdale's stores nationwide and Borghese's website.  A 16oz jar is $37.50

Product Review: Paul Penders Hair Care...

Haircare4_2 Shampoos and conditioners are one of my first loves.  In general, ever since I was little I have been obsessed in one form or another with them.  My sister I would watch the commercials in the 70's for brands like Body on Tap (which was made with beer and I swear made my hair bounce like crazy!)and admire the ladies with the hair that bounced in slow motion...LOL.  Hair washing day was on Saturday or Sunday and it took all morning because there were two of us that had to get our hair rolled.  We only had one mom and one dryer so we would both be done by 12 if we started early.  These days, I don't have as much time as I used to but I still want my hair to look good right??

Recently I tried a brand that I had never heard of called Paul Penders.  Their products are organic which is good...always nice to be kind to your hair especially since we put it through so much with the dying and the perming etc.  I used the Shampoo Gentle for fine hair.  What struck me was that the shampoo had little or no suds.  I thought that was odd so I ended up shampooing 3 times because I thought it wasn't "working".  We are so conditioned to feeling like our hair should "squeak" or its not clean...not the case.  Apparently shampoos with low suds are better for your hair because too much detergent can leave your hair dried out.  Also, this shampoo is fantastic if you wear braids or even a weave because you don't have to worry about having suds residue on your scalp!

So not only will your hair get clean, but the condition will be preserved as well with organic olive oil to moisturize. Rinse Gentle was actually really nice, smelled fresh and lemony.  My hair didn't feel weighed down, it was extremely light.  It has coconut oil, aloe vera and apple cider (which are all great for your hair by the way).

Heavy Metal...

Shimmer I have been meaning to get to this for weeks now!  These shadows are so very "Un-Bobbi" but I love them!  I have been itching for a good shadow kit from Ms. Brown for a while now and these deliver!  The new Metallics Collections have shadows that deliver a heaping dose of high pigment color that can be worn separately just as easily as all together.  The shadows have a soft and somewhat creamy feel as well.  These are all limited edition so run don't walk.

"Imagine a sparkly top that works perfectly with a pair of jeans. The look is sexy and elegant without trying too hard — exactly what I had in mind when I created these shadows." – Bobbi Brown

Brilliant.

The Rundown:

Velvet Plum Metallics You can do a mean smokey eye with this one...this would look amazing on brown eyed girls.  Shades included are Velvet Plum, Champagne Quartz &  Raisin.

Forest Metallics Great for redheads OR brown girls.  Yes ladies, wear a shade like balsam right next to your lashline for a giant dose of color. Shades included are Sage, Balsam & Forest.

Midnight Metallics Love these - navy is SO on my radar for fall - very retro.  Just a slick of a dark Midnight near the lashline with a inky liner is equally as pretty as a smokey eye.  You can do both with this kit.  Shades included are Midnight, Rockstar & Platinum

Burnt Sugar Metallics Whoa...this one is so soft.  Nice for daytime perfectly coordinated color wise.  Shades included are Toffee, Gold Dust & Burnt Sugar.

Wet To Dry and Straight in a Hot Minute...

31k7475ygzl_ss500_I am usually skeptical when it comes to hair appliances promising what seems to be the impossible.  But I have been won over this time.  I had heard my buddy Kristen rave about the T3 hair dryer, so I figured the brand had to be good.

Enter my newest hair buddy the Bespoke Labs 1.75" T3 Wet-or-Dry Flat Iron.  This baby is normally $200 but you can get it at Banler for $50 less (SCORE!!).  I started with damp, towel dried hair and as a ran the iron over my locks, something that looked like smoke came out (it was in fact steam) and my hair looks glassy and shiny and above all....straight and dry.  It did make my hair a little bit too straight, but who cares!  To a curly haired girl that has humidity issuses, i will take too straight over too frizzy any day...LOL!  I just threw in some hot rollers when I finished and I had shiny bouncy hair.

How does it work??  Well the ceramic plates are infused with tourmaline gemstones (hence the high price tag...), there are these little channels on either side that they call SmartPipes™.   Strategically placed holes for the water to escape as steam.  Steam is actually better for your hair than dry heat (remember the Caruso setter??)  Your hair (wet or dry) ends up really shiny and if you do the damp thing, kinda hydrated too.

  • T3 channeling and vents evaporate excess water; dry and straighten in one fast, healthy step
  • 1- 3/4" flat pure Tourmaline infused ceramic plates; pure tourmaline heater
  • Fully adjustable temperature control that reaches a maximum temperature of 410 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Unsurpassed infrared heat for deep, long lasting straightening; straighten or curl
  • Comes with a convenient travel pouch & 48 month warranty

Red Carpet Beauty: 2007 Primetime Emmy Awards...

Primetime_emmys_2007_3

There were two trends that I saw, neutral lips and RED baby.  Over half of the women hitting the red carpet had strong red lips (which was a trend that was reported last week at fashion week - they said red semi-matte lips would be back and it is BIG TIME)

That and I also saw the new lash trend that we heard about backstage at MAC of more lashes in the center of the eye (Mariska Hargitay).  I am loving the fact that everyone pretty much kept it simple - almost cocktail like.  There were a few dresses that I cringed at (Hayden Panettiere...WHY!!)

My picks above for best unfussy makeup - from left to right...

Rashida Jones of The Office, Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order SVU, Ali Larter of Heroes, Chandra Wilson of Greys Anatomy, Katherine Heigl of Greys Anatomy, Eva Longoria of Desperate Housewives, Heidi Klum of Project Runway and Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives.

What did you  think???

Primetime Emmy's Contest...

Guesswho Everyone wants to look their best - right??  Well how would you like to look better than your best??  How would you like to win a full size tube of Lumedia Facial Brightener valued at $90??  If you suffer from hyper-pigmentation or sunspots, this cream is definitely for you.

They say:  As we approach the age of 30, skin becomes duller and begins to lose the warmer-looking, “pinkish” glow… the red and pink tones are present in the skin of all ethnicities. Lumedia Facial Brightener works by restoring the warmer-looking, youthful, “pink” chroma that is characteristic of younger-looking skin, no matter what your ethnicity. It doesn’t make darker-colored skin look “white,” it just makes darker skin look warmer and more youthful.

Create your own red carpet moment!  All you have to do is identify the best actress nominee pictured on the left who is up for an Emmy on Sunday night.  Stumped?  I will give you a hint - she plays a drug addicted, former convict mommy in her new show (my favorite new show of all time!)

I will draw a winner at random on Sunday night.  Enter here by sending me an email - Make sure to include your answer as well as your full name and address.  I require your full name and address for your entry to be valid, identical entries will be ignored.  Contest is open from now until 10 pm EST on Sunday night (9/16).  Oh also, if you are in my phone book - you can't enter (sorry girls...lol)

I will be back on Monday with all of  my Emmy coverage, I will announce the winner then.

TheMakeupGirl Interview: Napoleon Perdis...

NapoleonpRecently, I was lucky enough to interview Australian makeup artist Napoleon Perdis.  Napoleon has emerged from down under as a force to be reckoned with.  He says he was drawn to makeup and beauty artistically because he watched his mother applying it as a child.  Fast forward to 1993, he had  won a competition at an International Beauty Expo in 1993.  By 1995, with the contacts he had made and with his father's financial backing, he opened his first store in Paddington, a suburb of Sydney.  Today, he has more than 30 stores throughout Australia and New Zealand.  His products are also showcased in salons around the country as well.  Napoleon is poised to take over in the United States, as his line is now carried in select Sephora stores and online as well.  In addition - he has just been named Official Makeup Sponsor for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.  Whew!

Lianne:  It was recently announced that you partnered with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - are you excited??

NP:  I’m the Official Makeup Sponsor for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, featured at the 50th Primetime Emmy Awards. This is truly a dream come true for me, because one of my brand values is all about bringing red carpet to reality!

New Spring Look From Lancome...

Proenzaschouler Lancôme's Artistic Director Gucci Westman has created one of my favorite looks for spring at one of the last shows of Fashion Week - Proenza Schouler.  The look is very feminine and nude.  Not the nude you are used to seeing though, this nude is wearable and fresh looking thanks to one of my newest favorites, Color Fever Gloss in Engaging.  This gloss is so so pretty and shiny!  The color is nude but NOT CHALKY and that has to be my favorite thing hands down.  Than means that darker girls can wear it too!

Gucci says, "The makeup was a continuation of the military inspired clothes from Proenza Schouler, not a trace of black anywhere on the face.  I used neutral shadows one after the other all the way around the eye for a "floating" effect."  The brows were dark, defined and elongated.  This look was monochromatic but not "boring".  A subtle pink was added to give the face a little "lift". Overall, one of my favorite runway looks, because it is so wearable.

The rundown:

  • Lancôme Artliner in Brown
  • Lancôme Color fever Gloss in Engaging
  • Lancôme Color Design Blush in Petticoat Pink
  • Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow in Couture & Click
  • Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre in Sable
  • Lancôme Hypnose Mascara in Brown

Damn - Demi Looks Good...

Demi2 Okay I know what you are gonna say, "If I had that much money I would look good too...sniff" but my thing about her is that even if she has had nips and tucks wherever, her SKIN looks AMAZING and there are only a few things you can do about that if it's not up to par.  Her skin has always been amazing, even back in her GH days.  You can't fake good skin...you just can't.  There is only so much you can do - the rest is genetics.

The photo of her on the left is from NY Fashion Week - dazzling honey.  Her age on IMDB is listed as almost 45 but I think she has got to be nearer to 50.  Nothing wrong with that - look at her!!  She almost looks better than she did 16 years ago in the Planet Hollywood heyday.

No doubt, Moore has been pretty candid about her obsession with her bodyDemi_moore_2_2 and the way it looks.  I remember her telling one of the late night TV hosts that she still biked 5-10 miles while 8 months pregnant (ouch..)  No matter, Tiff and I always joke that somebody tied her skin in a knot at the base of her spine and put their foot in her back to pull it tight like a corset...more power to you girl.  I'd do it too, if someone told me I was going to get fired from my multi-million dollar job unless I looked a certain way, you bet your booty I would.

So hats off to you Mrs. Kutcher - you are happy, you have your young husband and gorgeous skin.  Shake the haters off sweetie because we all know they wish they could.

How To Stay Cute Under Pressure...

Face_03 Okay...I will tell you this - It was so hot under the tents at Bryant Park that I felt like my face was going to melt off.  That's how humid it was INDOORS ladies.  Well I have a solution...here is my stay pretty and cool in humid indoor situations survival kit.

Tarte Little Blot Book I love this thing!  Because the last thing you want to do when you are sweating is put more makeup on your face.  If you can't find this or can't swing the $32 price tag, use a toilet seat cover to blot any excess moisture/oil from your face (swear to god it works...)

I like to use minimal eye makeup so I normally try to stick with a cream shadow for staying power like MAC's Paintpots from the Painterly collection.  Use your finger and dab it on your lids for an all over sheer wash of color.

Vincent Longo Cheek and Lip Stain is another one of my go-to faves.  I prefer to use this on the lips only though as applying it to the cheeks is okay...but you have to layer it to get the dose of color needed and I am too impatient for that...LOL.  Any lip color you add on top of this will stay infinitely longer.

NARS The Multiple LOVE this.  Doesn't take much honestly..a  little dab on the apple of each cheek and you're done..  Maybe you can get the newest shade Orgasm (he he) but any of them will do really.  I can put this on with no mirror (I kid you not..)  It goes on creamy and dries to a nice matte finish.

Have these items in your arsenal and you can't go wrong!!

Stairway To Heaven...

P9090044 Or hell...heh heh heh!  The picture in the left is the escalator to the beauty department at Bergdorf Goodman.  This has to be one of the prettiest beauty departments in America - and honey I have seen many.  You walk into the store and take an escalator downstairs - the entire bottom floor is devoted to niche brands like Kiehl's, Tarte, Paul & Joe, NARS and so so many others.  Skincare is also a huge focus for them.  Most of the brands I saw are not available on their website, with good reason...they want to be exclusive and exclusive they are.  Don't misunderstand, they also carry giants like Lancome, Chanel and Estee Lauder, but compared to the big fish..the little fish are sprinkled far and wide across the floor.

They also had an impressive fragrance department that carried small hard to find fragrances like Creed and an entire Tom Ford fragrance bar (swoon...) as well as home fragrances and candles.

I was down there for an hour or so just walking around.  It was beautifully lit (like candlelight) and everyone I encountered was extremely helpful.  I walked out with a few goodies from Lancome, my favorite eyebrow pencil, the adorable limited edition Baume Baiser (which is almost too pretty to use), a Tarte cheekstain in Sunkissed (which is a color I haven't seen before...great for brown girls).  The Lancome sales person was extremely vigilant...lol but I resisted temptation!  She did give me a bunch of samples of the newest addition to their skincare line...including the new Secret de Vie cellular eye cream which sounds amazing.  So look for a review on that.

I am still in a New York state of mind for real....LOL!  I will snap out of it sooner or later.  I guess I need to go up more often huh??  I am just a 2 hour train ride away...sigh.

P9080005I have a few more photos to share with you...
This is the backstage booth - where they provided espresso in case you needed a caffeine jolt!

The mood was very upbeat - but it was hot as I don't know what!  The lights were strong, Poor Bianca is six months pregnant so she was having to perch herself on a stool while she talked about trends.  The area was swarming with paparazzi and people trying to get theirP9080007 hands on SWAG.  Just sheer craziness...but I have to be honest with you...I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!  Yes it was insane..but that's what fashion week is all about.

I was able to hear first hand what the trends for spring were and pass them all on to you!  How great is that?  I will be registering next time so I can get backstage and take some photos - so count on that for the shows in February showcasing all of the fall looks for 2008.

All in all, I am so so glad I went.  It was an honor to have been invited to these events...and count on me being there from now on!

Backstage & Dinner...

P9080018 Hey y'all!  Okay...I must confess...I did hit a few stores (I will share that later) and I also discovered that New York has succumbed to the nationwide flip flop epidemic.  I love flip flops as much as the next gal but with evening wear...UM no honey.  Just because they have glitter on them doesn't make it okay to put them on with your pantsuit at dinner.  Anyway here is what it looked like inside Bryant Park...crazy right??

So continuing on from yesterday...we met up with Kristen from Beauty Addict, Nichelle from 55 Secret Street, Lesley from Fashiontribes and invited them all to dinner with us.  We went to this great Italian place called Arno's (we closed this place downP9080030 too...lol) and had the best time.  Then the brave souls continued on to the bar at the W hotel for cocktails.  Whew...what a night (and day!)

That is Nichelle, Julia and I on the right - those are my GIRLS!  Anyway...I got some insider tips and exclusive product releases from Lancome that I will be telling you about in the coming weeks.  Also...I will have some new MAC things to tell you about as well.  I miss the girls already!  Elke and I shared a cab uptown and just talked about how great it was to spend time with and actually meet everyone.  I crawled into bed at nearly 2am (oh so late for me...) I had 2 dirty martinis and I was feeling that the next day (they were so so good and so dirty...LOL!)

The Neiman Marcus Fall Beauty Event Is Here!!

Nmc0bpt_mn Okay...you know the drill.  The Fall Neiman Marcus Beauty Event is an Institution!  The rundown is:  If you make a purchase of $100 or more you will get this tote filled with deluxe size goodies.  In addition...depending on which line you purchase from, you will be entitled to an additional deluxe offer from them.

Bobbi Brown has a deluxe gift that looks gorgeous.  This is with a $150 Bobbi Brown purchase.

Lancome has this yummy leopard bag filled with goodies with a $100 purchase.

You get the drift.  You either spend $100 total on whatever you want and get the bag pictured at left OR spend the designated amount from your favorite line and get their gift OR BOTH...heh heh heh.  Here is a listing of all the beauty event offers available this fall.

The event is running online from September 4-17 and in stores September 7-16.

On The Cheap: Flirt Cosmetics Dreamy Eyes Palette...

Vm I love a good smokey eye...but creating one should be in everyone's reach financially.  That's why I love it when I can find a mid-priced line to recommend to you.  Flirt Cosmetics is one such line.  Former MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo has teamed up with Flirt Cosmetics to launch a limited edition collection of shadows that won't break the bank.  The Dreamy Eyes shadow collection is totally fun, and packs a good dose of pigment so you can layer and get that smokey eye feel without spending more than $15.  That's right...I said $15.

The set that I tried is called Party Purple (shown at right), comes with a dual ended applicator that has a brush one one end and a sponge tip onFlirt_2 the other.  You can use this tool to create a soft look or a more intense smokey look.  Purple is on my hit list for fall...looks great with dark eyes!  The other set is called Chic Bronze, which has the same intensity but in neutral shade tones.

You can also use the sponge tip to line underneath the eyes for a finished look.  One of the best things about this, however is the packaging.  The case is extremely sturdy (you can throw it in your bag and nothing will happen to it...)  It actually took me a minute to figure out how to open it (slide to the right and the top will pop up to reveal a mirror - SCORE!)

Flirt cosmetics are sold exclusively at Kohl's stores nationwide.

Lancôme's Mystery Game...

Mysterygame_hd_2 Wow wow wow, I know I'm late on this, but I finally just saw this in person and all I can say is bravo Gucci Westman!!  Lancôme's Fall color story Mystery Game is absolutely GORGEOUS.  I am not crazy about ALL of it....but there are some standouts for me.

Le Crayon Khol Oriental Duo looks like an ornamental chopstick but it is one of the best liners I have used.  It feels really good in your hand PLUS you get two shades right there (it is split down the middle).  Great for creating a little or a lot of drama around your eyes.  I absolutely love the brown and gold one!

Color Fever Gloss iIf you love the look of Juicy Tubes but crave something with more longevity - then this is the gloss for you.  I am in LOVE with the new shade called Engaging....PERFECT for a nude look just amazing.  Lots of shine and long wear rolled into one ...total show stopper.

Baume Baiser is this little dome of squiggly lip balm that smells like coconut milk and gives you shine and moisture at the same time!  The limited edition shade is called Rose Marshmallow and I just love it!  Wear it alone or under your lipcolor.

You Sexy Motherpucker...

Sexy_mp Shut up - Prince would be proud that I used his song for an article title...LOL!  Not only is this the (somewhat) name of one of my favorite songs of all time - it is the name of a new line of lipglosses from the ubiquitous Marcia Kilgore of Bliss Spa fame.  Marcia has created a new range of bath & beauty products called Soap & Glory where the motto is, "You shouldn’t have to spend an arm and a leg to moisturize one...".  The entire line is priced under $20.  Brilliant.

This gloss is one of my new favorites - it comes in several shades (I only saw three in Target) Nude is perfect on everyone...there is also a peachy-berry shade and another sheer vanilla looking shade called super starry.  The only one that was available on it's own was nude the others were with nude in a set of three.  These are plumping glosses but they don't burn like many of them do.  Just a slight tingle was all that I felt.

Best of all, they are available now at your local Target!!

UPDATE!!  I actually read the package (what a concept...lol) and it is water activated so if your lips are moist then it will tingle more!  Add a little sprinkle of water and it tingles intensely!

Inside Job...

Binsider Be the first to preview this great little set from LORAC called Beauty Insider Palette.  What I love about LORAC's colors is that they hold SO much pigment!  Have you ever tried an eyeshadow  or blush thinking it was one color only to be disappointed when it went on super soft or worse non existent??  Not so with any of LORAC's colors.  Nobody wants to sit in front of a mirror trying to build layers of color - because then you will look like what?  Like you have on a ton of makeup and that is SO not pretty.  We want our looks to be soft even if it's a made up "look" - no clowns please....

LORAC gives you the hottest looks for fall in one cute, sleek little red snake skin case.  You get 5 shadows, two blushes, a dual ended brush and a red lip polish.  Red lips are all the rage for fall and this is the BEST way to wear them without looking overpowered...a nice soft gloss will give you the color that you want without all of the stodginess of traditional red lipstick (which is extremely hard to wear in everyday life..)

A $155 value...this lovely kit is a mere $37 exclusively at Sephora.  Act fast..this one won't last for sure.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life....

MegamushOkay maybe not a DJ - but definitely these new Plantidote Mega Mushroom eye Makeup remover pads from Origins.  I have been feeling a little run down lately...even on the verge of feeling like a cold is coming on and I need all the help I can get.

These eyemakeup remover pads are a godsend after a long day in front of a computer screen.  They are oil-free and pre-soaked with a formula that not only gets your makeup off, but it soothes your tired eyes as well.  The mega mushroom formula also contains ginger, tumeric and basil among other things.  After I used them...my eyes felt cooled and refreshed and not one stitch of makeup remained.  I was able to lay down and rest...I actually think I may have slept better...who knows...LOL.

The pads are the brainchild of Dr. Andrew Weil. Dr. Weil is a the foremost authority on integrative health and parterned with Origins a few years ago to develop a line of skincare that helps to restore life to skin that is plagued with dryness, redness, hyper pigmentation, lines and wrinkles.  His philosophy is that without good health, there is no real beautyWell said.

Beauty News: Oprah's Makeup Artsist Comes Out With Seminar...

Sept_omag Oprah's beloved makeup artist, Reggie Wells is coming out with his own business venture.  He unveils his own makeup seminars this Saturday in Chicago called "A Day Of Beauty with Reggie Wells".

If you have ever seen this man in action then you know that he gives hope to people that have uneven skin coloring everywhere.  Oprah is brave because I don't know if I would let people see me looking less than perfect...but she does.  In fact, she did an entire show about how he "transforms her" and what he does to achieve it.

The seminar fee is $300 - but you will leave with $700 worth of makeup...and his tips.  So if you are in Chicago...I would highly recommend checking it out if you are in need of application tips.

Geurlain Terra Cotta Spray Bronzer...

Spraybronze_2 Looking for another way to bronze?  Another new summer favorite is Geurlain's Terra Cotta Spray. Geurlain is the grandmother of all bronzers.  As a matter of fact, Terracotta was the first bronzer I ever owned....Nana got it for me from Saks when I was 16.

It contains SPF 10 and comes in two shades...light and medium.  I use medium...and a little goes a long way.  Just shake the can and spray directly onto your face.  Each can contains roughly 130 applications (not bad....right??)  The same technology  used in professional airbrushing is inside this little can.

When you apply...spray in a circular motion starting at the forehead and working your way down the face.  Your face will have a nice glow...

On The Cheap: Boots No. 7 Face Wipes...

Savemoneylimited_1 I am guilty of being too tired to wash my face just like everyone.  It is all I can do sometimes to actually scrub everything off.  If you are too tired and burning the candle at both ends like me then you will love Boot's No. 7 Quick Thinking Wipes.

My favorite thing about them hands down (besides that they actually clean your face) is the packaging - most moist towelette wipes tend to dry out because they rely on a FLIMSY resealable flap.  So if you forget to seal it all the way just one time, then your wipes are doomed and your money down the drain.  This one has a little trap door that closes and seals up tight - brilliant!!  Top that off with a great wipe that gets the job done and a $6.99 price tag and you have got a winner.  I picked mine up at Target...

Glow Baby...Glow...

Bronzedgoddess I love effortless looks for summer.  I don't like looking like i have on a ton of makeup...I prefer to look tanned and healthy.

Enter one of my all-time favorites and summer staples Tarte's Cheek Stain in Bronzed Goddess.  All of the colors of cheek stain are great but this one actually is my favorite.  It looks flat and one dimensional in the tube, but once you get it on...it imparts this rosey golden glow - just like the sun does plus it smells like coconuts (I am dreaming of the beach as we speak...) I put this on the apples of my cheeks, my forehead, my eyelids...wherever the sun naturally hits my face.  You will have an effortless sunny glow in minutes.  This is also really great for the beach, just make certain you keep it out of the sun so you don't have a melted mess on your hands.  Or do what I do and pack an IcyBag and make sure nothing melts!

Celebutante Dry Oil Shimmer Spray is great for a glowing body.  It's non-greasy (love that!), smells like coconuts and has a delicate champagne shimmer.  Be careful and put it on before you get dressed otherwise you will have that pretty shimmer all over your clothes!

Butter Me Up...

Lavanilla I adore vanilla...I have vanilla beans in my sugar canister at home!  I tend to gravitate towards scents that have a little vanilla in them.  So imagine my surprise when I see that one of my favorite vanilla fragrances of all time La Vanilla has come out with body butter!  I'm in heaven.

Dubbed as a healthy body butter, these melt on contact with your skin.  Enriched with shea and cocoa butters (whooo hoo!!) and goji berry (an antioxidant) your skin is lightly scented and incredibly soft.

Available in three scents, pure vanilla, vanilla grapefruit and vanilla blossom (my favorite...) it comes packaged in a handy 8oz tube and retails for $25.

Candy Girl....

Candypaintsplashnew Candy girl...you are my world...remember that song?  Carol's Daughter's newest invention is called Candy Paint Lip Gloss.  As soon as I saw it...it took me back to that song.  The gloss has all the components that I love and that is...shine shine and more shine!

This gloss is super shiny...Paraben, mineral oil, and petroleum-free gloss is a treat for your lips that contains shea butter, grapeseed oil, aloe vera, and vitamin E (any lips would love that).  They come is 12 gorgeous shades and  in addition portion of sales of the sales benefit the Lupus Foundation of America.

My favorite thing about these shades is that so many of them will work wonderfully on darker skin...but all the fairer skinned girls can wear them too!  My favorites are Grown and Sexy (rose with gold shimmer), Bronze Goddess (mahogany shimmer) and This Is Me (sheer pinky beige)

Pretty with a cause...I love it.

MAC ATTACK: Painterly & In 3D

In3d_390 Sorry I have been MIA - the job that pays the bills has kept me hopping!  I have been meaning to tell you about Painterly and In 3D for a minute now. Here's the rundown...

Painterly is a new collection from MAC for summer.  It contains Technakohl Liners and two new brushes.  The stand out stars here are the Paint Pots.  This is my fave new product from MAC in a long time.  They are essentially a long wear creamy shadow.  It holds up extremely well in the heat and is perfect for layering.  It goes on creamy but when it is dry...it is cake free, crease free and gawgus honey.  They come in 12 shades in both matte and pearl finishes.  Super easy to use and blend.  My favorites are Indianwood, Blackground and Constructivist.

In 3D is the latest in the lipglass line.  The collection contains a new limited edition lipglass called 3D Glass...and I LOOVE these.  Some of them look scary in the container but true to form...MAC has made them sheer and wearable, lovely and sheer and they smell like cake!  Provides high gloss wet finish with subtle pearl.  Brush tip applicator provides even coverage and it's not sticky one bit.  Comes in 12 yummy shades and I love them all but my favorites have to be Opitcal, Boundless and Wondershine.  (I have been wearing Optical every day now for the past week...lol)  The Lipglass pencil is a sheerer pencil that defines with a bit of shine and is made to work with glosses.

Secret Ingredient: Mint...

Minty Summertime....hot, sweaty, sticky.  Just a few worlds to describe how it feels in my part of the country (although...lately it has been quite nice so I shouldn't complain!).  The first thing I reach for when the mercury starts rising are minty products.  I drink mint iced tea to cool off...and I use beauty products with peppermint infusions.  Besides the obvious immediate cooling benefit, mint can also be great for sore muscles, relaxation and believe it or not...upset stomach.  Growing up, Nana always had mint in the backyard...now I know why.

Carol's Daughter Rosemary & Mint Shampoo Great for dry hair that is in need of some TLC.  This minty shampoo will stimulate your scalp and the lavender will calm those frazzled ends.

Mintea This is a unique fragrance that pairs green and mint tea with lemon and other floral notes to create a refreshing and light fragrance that would be ideal for summer.

Bliss Minty Moisture Milk Very cool and light!  This is a great lightweight feeling moisturizer that does the job of a heavy weight.  Added firming benefit and fresh mint scent make this another great summer find.

Sugar Freshen Up Lip Gloss Lip gloss that freshens your breath??  You bet.  This one is a throwback to the roll on glosses of the 70's that I loved so much.  Tastes like a breath mint and gives off tons of shine.

Philosophy Empowermint Body Mask Spa treatment at home in record time.  This is an invigorating head to toe body mask that delivers deep cleansing and exfoliation.  Less irritating than salt scrubs this is a thick paste that you massage in and leave on for a bit before rinsing.

Peeling Layers...

Pads I know that some folks are scared of the word "microdermabrasion"  but essentially, it's a fancy word for exfoliation....it's just a deeper version.  Microdermabrasion at home has been all the rage as of late.  All kinds of contraptions and creams are out on the market.  There was nothing super simple until now.

Philosophy has introduced Micro-Delivery Peel Pads.  They sort of remind me of the Stridex pads from back in the day.  You can use them on your face neck and body.  The active ingredient is lactic acid...everything is super gentle and you will get no redness.  Just soft pretty glowing skin.

Drugstore Diva: Hot Buys For Skincare...

Drugstorediva Don't you hate it when you are on a trip and god forbid something happens to your luggage?  I know how it feels, it has happened to me before.  Well fear not, you can go to the local drugstore and be able to wash and care for your skin without spending a fortune.

Cetaphil This will take off your makeup and leave your skin feeling fresh and clean.  Created by a dermatologist, this is non-irritating and unlike regular soap, contains no alkaline which will dry out your skin.

Dove Energy Glow Foaming Face Cleanser For those of you that like a soap-like feel to your cleanser.  This one also gently exfoliates with ultra fine smooth beads.  You get that yummy Dove glow and soft skin.

L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover Nearly identical to Lancome's Effacil remover (they are owned by the same parent company).  Gets rid of eye makeup in a jiffy at under $6.

Olay Complete All Day UV Defense Moisturizer This contains SPF 15 and is light. non greasy and designed for sensitive skin.  This will provide broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra Lift Night Cream I like this one because it contains Omega 3 + 6, vitamin A and rice protein.  It targets wrinkles, loss of firmness and dryness - but it is a surprisingly light cream.  Will work well for summer if you have been out in the sun.

You're A Fake - Baby....

Revitalift Just like purses, shoes and the like.  There are counterfeit cosmetics, skincare and fragrances out there (hard to believe, I know...).  Cosmetic manufacturers report that in the Middle East, the market is upwards $210 Million. Over a four year period, approximately $50 million worth of counterfeit cosmetics were seized in that region alone.  They included top brands like L'Oreal and Christian Dior ... yikes!

So if you are in doubt, know that legitimate products are only available in stores.  When shopping online just be careful and follow guides that are available to you.  When in doubt, make certain that you buy everything from a reputable retail establishment like a drugstore or department store.

Bella Sugar has a great article on how to spot the imposters and eBay UK also has some information that is extremely valuable for shopping online.

Sneak Peek: MAC Rush Metal...

Rushmetal_390 More MAC mania...the second new collection this summer is called Rushmetal.  Since I am a golden girl - these new collections were a godsend for me.  I love the bronzey golden look for summer!  This collection is largely made up of pigments and some fantastic lipstick colors.

Lipstick These shades are all metallic....soft and beautiful.  Love them all but my favorites are Frenzy and Thrills.  They feel and look smooth on with a metal like shine.  Wear them alone or pair them with a lustre glass like Instant Gold.

Pigment If you have never used a MAC pigment before...you are missing out.  These are finely milled concentrated loose powders.  They adhere to the skin easily...no streaking or caking.  You can use them to create a sheer wash of color or layer for more intensity.  These new shades can be used for your eyes or face.  Best application method I have found is to shake it up (cap on please...lol) and dip your brush into what is left inside the top.  Start small and build.  My favorites are Rushmetal, Goldmode and Quick Frost.

This collection also contains two brushes, 239 an eye shader brush and 249 a large shader brush, both are fiber brushes and are excellent for use with the pigments.

Rush Metal is selling out all over and is available at MAC counters nationwide and on the MAC website.

Sneak Peek: MAC Flashtronic...

Flashtronic_390 I love love LOVE new collections!!  MAC has come out with two limited edition collections that will be in stores over the next few months.  The one I am reviewing first is called Flashtronic.

"Colour and light fused to perfection with the pearlized shimmer of Mineralize Skinfinish, complemented by six new marbled shades of Mineralize Eye Shadow and our four new Tinted Lipglass. It's all the flash you need."

These colors can go either way, the look I went for is the natural look (see below).  But you could easily use them to highlight with other products for a more dramatic look.

Mineralize Skinfinish These are baked in a pan with several shades together to achieve a natural effect.  perfect for  highlighting or wearing alone with a tan.  Go easy, these do have a fair amount of sparkle in them but the highlight effect is simply gorgeous. Comes in 3 shades.

Mineralize Eyeshadow Up to four shades baked in a pan.  Super light soft tint effect, can be worn onLianne_mac2 eyes, face or body.  Same goes here, fair amount of sparkle...so even if you think you don't have on enough - go outside in natural light - it's there trust me.  Comes in 6 shades.

Tinted Lipglass Regular readers know of my lipglass obsession....LOL.  These 4 new shades are no exception.

Flashtronic will be available September 27, 2007 at MAC counters nationwide.

How Cute Is This?? - Rimmel Light Beam Gloss...

Lightbeam_3 Ever wish you had a light when you were in a dark place to put on your lipgloss??  Rimmel London has solved that problem with their newest gloss called Light Beam from their Underground Collection.

Light Beam is an extremely lightweight gloss with a faint scent...nothing too overpowering.  It comes in 6 sheer shades.  My faves are Disco Ball (Clear with gold metallic) and After Hours (sheer brownish cherry red)

The brilliant part??  A built in LED light tucked away in the cap with a button on top that you click to turn it on and off!!  There is also a mirror on the side of the tube.  An innovative conversation starter and a really nice gloss to boot.

Pricey Creams: Strivectin SD...

Strivectin_3 Ahhh better than botox they claim...how bad can that be right??  I will tell you this, Strivectin SD is a great product, you just have to be careful how you apply it.  I used Strivectin for 4 weeks and I did notice a dramatic decrease in the wrinkles on my forehead (which is the only place I applied it) but be CAREFUL...do NOT get this product anywhere near your eyes.  If you read  the information that comes with it, they tell you not to place it anywhere near your eyes.  They make a special Strivectin for around the eye area, so if you are thinking maybe you want to cut corners and just buy this and use it around your eyes as well...think again.  I got some near my eyes by accident and they burned and were irritated for at least 6 hours so don't do it.

When you apply the cream, do so in a circular motion until it is absorbed into your skin.  I found it better to start with towel dried skin instead of dampened skin, the cream seemed to absorb better.  It has a minty tingly smell and feel...which they say is normal.  They also say you may experience a warming sensation which is also said to be normal.  I didn't have that, also you are only to apply this up to three times per day.  This is serious ladies...read the instructions!  Overall, I would recommend it if you are looking for an alternative to botox, it won't make the wrinkles go away but with prolonged use it may make them a lot less noticeable.  Also take into consideration that all of this depends on your age and the condition of your skin.  The cream retails for $135 at Sephora and department stores nationwide.

Swimproof.....

Kisskiss I was at the pool all weekend long and I was experimenting with some of my water resistant goodies.  Now, I have a few things that I use religiously but this weekend I decided to shake it up a little.  I don't wear foundation (especially in the water) because I think it is a little heavy for the summer - plus you are tan anyway .. right??

Tarte Lights Camera Splashes Most waterproof mascaras make your lashes hard or brittle.  This one left my lashes soft and flexible and it was easy to remove with a little oil based remover.  Plus I got length and thickness.

Laura Mercier Metallic Creme Eye Color I like one color on the lid when you are poolside/beachside.  This one is great because you can use your fingers.  Just a little dab will do the trick and you can place it from lash line to lid.  Waterproof and extremely lightweight....I wore Platinum yesterday.

Smashbox O-Glow I really like this because it doesn't look like a big streak of red on me.  Now it may be different for lighter complexions but it looks great on brown girls.  Lightweight gel formula glides on and keeps your cheeks glowing for hours.

Geurlain Kiss Kiss Gloss Non sticky, water resistant and it comes in 10 shades from pink to fig.  Available in three formulas, Petal Effect gives sheer coverage, Pearl Effect gets a boost of pearly essence, and Gloss Effect provides a subtle sparkling finish.  My favorites are Fraise a Croquer, Figue Plaisir and Beige Caprice.

Pretty Bag...

7105_3742 Do you have a pretty makeup bag?? I try to get a new one every year.  I usually gift my oldies but goodies to family or friends.  The top things for me in a makeup bag are, durability, roominess and size.  I don't want it to be too big or too small and of course it has to be pretty. The perfect size for me is some kind of rectangle shape (you can just get more in). I tend to lean towards the sleek black kind but there should be nothing stopping you (or me for that matter...lol) from picking up something with a shot of color.  Here are some of my favorites...

Sephora Core Vinyl Cosmetics Case Shaped like a rectangle, this roomy case looks good but takes up very little space in your bag. Plus you can just wipe it clean.

Makeup Forever Crystal Bag If you like to see everything then this one is for you. Clear plastic rectangle bag allows you to be a voyeur and see into your makeup bag so you don't have to dig around.

LeSportSac Cosmetics Clutch This is one of the cutest because it comes in so many patterns or just plain black or off white.  AND the outside will wipe clean with a damp sponge.  Roomy and packable...this one works for travel or everyday.

Drink Your Eye Shadow...

CargoJust kidding!!  I don't know what it is, but recently I have been SO into liquid shadows.  These shadows are not creams...they are liquid or gel - they will go on wet and dry to a smooth crease proof finish.  These are ideal if you want to pop a certain shadow color by layering on top but I also love them alone. Perfect for summer because they last forever. Here are my favorites...

Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Dazzling Liquid Shadow When I first saw this I thought it was old makeup or that there was something wrong because it looked so runny!.  In the tube it looks like colored shimmery water, but when you put it on ... totally different story.  The color is intense and soft at the same time...you can layer it for more intensity but you have to let it dry between applications.  My faves are Spark, Wanting and Pillow Talk.

Cargo Liquid Shadow Collection Six water based shadow gels, with intense color.  These last a good long time (more than 6 hours on me), they look great and feel light.  These are also great for layering dry on top.

Tarte Lock & Roll The more I used this, the more I liked it.  When I first got this I didn't exactly know how to use it - now I am a pro.  This comes with a coordinating loose shadow to place on top of the liquid once it has dried.  Also very long lasting (6 hours) but I wish there were more colors here - we shall see what they come up with for Fall.  I have been wearing this one everyday for the past month.

Top your look off with some waterproof mascara and you are ready for water sports indoor or out (wink).

I'm Ready For My Close-up!!!

Costars2 I have been meaning to write about these for a while now.  LORAC has come out with a transfer-free lip-duo called co-stars.  There is color on one end and a clear gloss on the end.  Now I LOVE the idea of transfer free lipstick but every single one I have tried ends up all extremely dry, flakey and cakey.  Not this one...

LORAC has developed an advanced formula that claims to be non-drying, smudge-proof, and transfer-proof.  In addition I had heard it was supposed to last 8 hours!  So I put it to the test.  I had a friend in town from L.A. a few weeks ago and I wore it to lunch before I took her to the airport (Spanish food), then I ran some errands, had some coffee and then it was dinner.  All the while I kept checking my mirror - the color was still there.  I did re-apply the gloss mostly because I like that glossy feeling...but other than that I am pleased to say that it lasted about 9 hours before it started to fade.  My favorite colors are French Kiss, Make Out and Hot Kiss which is a new bronzey limited edition color.

This lip color was comfortable and lasted through lunch, coffee, and part of dinner.  My kinda lipstick!!  There was a bit of dryness, but that was minimal, I just re-applied the gloss which helped to add some moisture when you felt a little dry.  If you are a road warrior and you don't have time to constantly re-apply lip products this one is for you.  I would even use this at the beach or the pool so you can have some color without worrying about it.

Billy B. Paintbrushes...

Billybbiopic Remember when I stalked him??  Well Mr. B. has a new addition to his ever growing empire.  He has come out with a collection of excellent makeup brushes called billybbeauty PAINTBRUSHES.   I was so excited when I found out about them from Julia, she told me that he was selling them at The Makeup Show. Well as of yesterday - I am the proud owner of a full set, when I opened the package I just laid them all out on my bed...it was a sight....LOL!

Billy developed these brushes and they are a natural and synthetic blend so they will be durable.  The handles are short - which I love because I find they are easier to work with and they are so so so soft!!

The set contains 13 brushes that he "cannot live without..." once you try them you won't want to live without  them either.  So whether you decide to buy the whole set (worth it - excellent quality) or a few to start out, you will indeed enjoy using them.  If you are going the a la carte route, I would suggest picking up 1, 3, 6 and 8.

Gimme A Boost...

P182411_hero If you use a bronzer year round then you will know what I am talking about here.  Most bronzers are just that - bronze and that can end up making your skin look dull at times, especially if you have fair skin.  Very few bronzers contain the rosey pigment needed to give you that natural tanned look.  So here's what you do - grab DuWop's Blush Booster and apply it to the apples of your cheeks.

It was meant for layering but looks equally fabulous on it's own.  It will just brighten up the look of the bronzer instantly.  Comes in 4 yummy colors, my favorite is apple.. Retails for $22 at Sephora.  Have a safe and happy 4th of July!!

NARS Summer 2007 - Coquette...

Narscoquette The new collection from NARS is available...so so so excited.  It was super hard to find any photos online for the longest.  Coquette is super sexy and all about nudes and bronzes.  Right up my alley!!

Nude looks are so nice for summer, I love cream shadows and blushes when it gets warmer because you don't want to fuss with your makeup if you end up getting caught outside in the heat.  You can just blot and go.

The cream shadows are wonderful - so easy to slip on in the summertime and they last last last.  I love Petula all over the lid from lash line to browbone this is not a new shade but it works really well with the rest of the collection so I can see why they are including it. The new cream shadow duos, Madagascar, Pink Panther and Summertime are amazing.  The lipsticks are sheer and lovely. Sexual Healing (a rosey shimmer) will look great on anyone and Porte Vecchio is a sheer chocolate YUM.  Top it off with the new lip gloss in Strip Tease which is super nude with just a little shimmer almost like candlelight and you will have one glossy sexy looking mouth.

Honorable mention goes to the Sparking Pressed powders which are still kind of light for me, so I wouldn't suggest them for darker skintones.

Venus - Flesh toned with gold shimmer (for fair skintones)
Macchu Picchu - Warm nude with gold shimmer (light-medium skintones)
Gold Rush - Warm, deeper nude shade with gold shimmer (medium skintones)

Top this look off with one of the NARS multiples and you have a beautifully nude look that will last all day or night.....

Pricey Creams: Creme De La Mer...

Cremedelamer_2 Ahhhh the legendary Crème de la Mer.  Celebrities swear by it, women the world over sing it's praises.  The cream was created by Dr. Max Huber, an Aerospace Physicist.  He was conducting a routine experiment when it exploded in his face.  He suffered from severe chemical burns and nothing he tried helped.  Huber decided to help himself. Twelve years and 6,000 experiments later—Crème de la Mer was born.

As luck would have it, I had burned myself with a curling iron (No really...I am always doing this) about a week prior to using the cream.  The burn was pretty bad, not as severe as a chemical burn but bad nonetheless and right on the side of my face.  Well, I started using La Mer, and the burn was healed up quite nicely in about 2 weeks. I continued to use it for a full month and noticed that my skin was getting softer and lines were softened, not gone, but softened.  This cream would be perfect if you were in any kind of extreme condition weather wise.  Be prepared, the cream is heavy...it feels heavy but absorbs very nicely.  It feels somewhat like a salve on your skin which most likely why it is so soothing.  A little will go a long long way.  I used it at night, but found it too heavy to use in the daytime.

Experiment 101: Pricey Creams...

Cream Have you ever wondered about pricey or "luxury" face creams?  I have a friend that swears by a cream that she buys duty free in Europe once a year.  What do think - is it worth it?  Cosmetic companies spend serious money on science that says it is.  You be the judge...over the next few weeks I will conduct my own experiment with several creams that cost over $60. I have used each cream for minimum of 3 weeks (some longer).

The creams that I am reviewing are:

ReVive They have a patented formula that speeds up the production of new cells.  It is said to work faster on damaged or aging skin.

Creme De La Mer Touted as a miracle cream and endorsed by celebrities the world over.  It started as an accident but is now one of the most coveted creams on the market today with a devout celebrity following.

Kate Somerville She is the owner and creator of one of the hottest medi-spas in Los Angeles.  Celebrities like Jessica Alba, Sandra Oh and Debra Messing all depend on her for their glowing skin.  Her line reflect years of research and what she calls the skin health care pyramid.

C-Shocking...

Eve_tambo Well, MAC has done it again.  This latest collection tips it's hat to the 80's.  The long ago land of neon colors and electric blue mascara (hey...I did it and I am proud).  I know what you are thinking, I can't wear these colors...but yes you can.  Maybe not all of them and definitely not all at once.  But it can be done!

Right of the top my favorites are the Lip Gelees, the colors are so sheer, you can layer them over lipstick or wear them with liner or all by themselves.  Today I am wearing Sugar Shock (yummy...)  The shadows look scary but they are surprisingly sheer.  Don't get me wrong, they definitely pack a pigment punch, but they aren't as bright as I thought they would be.  Favorites here are Fab & Flashy, Romping and Going Banannas.  Last but not least, the lipsticks, now don't freak out...but there is a blue lipstick in here, I haven't exactly figured out how to wear this one yet (I will let you know when I do...LOL) but my favorites here are Overrich, Out To Shock and Pomposity.

This entire collection was used my Eve's makeup artist JJ in her new video Tambourine and might I add, she looks AMAZING in the video..  I am participating in a special chat on Wednesday with Eve and JJ to discuss the line and how to get the looks he created.  I will be back with all the info on Thursday or Friday.

The limited C-Shock collection is available at MAC stores and counters from June 18th-July 14th or you can check it out on the website here.

Liquid Eyeliner 101: How To Apply...

Liquidliner The newest trend these days is liquid liner, now I know what you are thinking...."No way am I gonna wear that 60's batwing crap like Amy Winehouse!"  You don't have to, unless you want to that is...LOL! Liquid eyeliner has gotten a bad rap through the years, you actually can wear it and make it subtle - trust me....

The best way to keep it soft is to use a color - that's right color.  Go for a soft brown or even one of the new fun metallic versions like my new favorite Tarte's Lock & Roll.  There are also alternatives to the standard brush method like the liner pen.  I really like Lancome's Artliner not only because it comes in great colors, but it is pretty foolproof.  Whatever you do, don't be afraid of it...that will be your worst enemy.  Relax and keep a pointed cotton swab and some eye makeup remover nearby just in case.  But if you follow my tips, you won't need them.

  1. Keep your eyes open with your head tilted slightly back contrary to popular belief, keeping your eyes closed while applying can be disastrous.  Keeping your eye open will allow you to follow the natural contour of your eye.
  2. Start at the inner corner of your eye sweep the liner all the way across your eye and stay close to your lashline!  This way you can build on it if you think the look is too subtle.

On The Cheap: Iman Luxury Lip Shimmer...

Savemoneylimited_1 Looking for a great lipgloss that doesn't cost $20??  Well look no further!!  Joy of joys I found it at Target of all places.  Iman's Luxury Lip Shimmer  is a fantastic sponge applicator gloss, very very lightweight with a faint fruit smell.  Perfect alone or on top of liner or lipstick and at $9.99 you can afford to get two.

I had heard that Iman was bringing her line to Target but I hadn't seen it yet.  Well I saw it this morning!!  The gloss comes in 12 shades, my favorites were Decadent, Honey, Brownie and Crystal.  But all of the shades will look great on most complexions.  Don't be fooled by the how the shades look online...you have to go see it in person!  Decadent is a plummy bronze but online it looks purple...go figure.  So get over to Target and check it out....

Lemme Lemme Upgrade Ya...

P179912_heroReady for a self tanner upgrade??  If you are new to the self tanner game, and thinking about trying a high end brand why not start with the best one I have tried ever....  Okay I am biased because i worked for them for so long, but I still use the products today so that says something.

Clarins has been in the skincare business since 1954, in fact they were one of the first "high-end" sun care lines I tried.  They used to have this amazing tinted sun care cream that was SPF 20 (unheard of back then) that I used to slather all over my body...LOL.

Clarins has the science and the expertise to deliver.  The Self Tanning Starter Kit is no exception.  This three step kit has everything you need to get a nice golden glow.  Kit contains...

  • 4.4 oz Self Tanning Instant Gel
  • 1.7 oz Radiance-Plus Self Tanning Cream-Gel
  • 0.69 oz One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser

Use the cleanser to exfoliate your face before you apply the Radiance Plus to your face, the Instant Gel is amazing because it dries so quickly you will never know it was there.  No streaking, no funny orange color...just beautiful bronze glow.

Natural Skincare: Lotus Moon...

LotusiconEveryone is going green these days...and skincare companies are no exception.  If you are leaning towards that avenue...there are several options out there for you that are not only kind to the environment...they are kind to your skin.

Lotus Moon is one such company.  My friend Carrie found this one and told me that I had to, "Try the pumpkin enzyme peel...it's amazing!!".  Well I tried that and a few other things that I was impressed with.  The owner and founder Lake Louise is as friendly as she is gorgeous.  If I told you how old she was you wouldn't believe me.  Her philosophy is to bring together the best of both worlds in a very effective, natural, skin care range. Lotus Moon products incorporate the principles of Aromatherapy and Ayurveda - the original healing science of India, - two ancient practices which use plants and their essential oils to heal and promote the general health of the skin, mind and body. I tried these...

Pumpkin Enzyme Peel Boy was Carrie right!!  The smell is a bit overwhelming (think pumpkin pie) BUT the effect on your skin is amazing. 100% fruit acid formula, but very gentle.  You get the benefits of fruit acid without the burn usually associated with them.

D20 Moisture Mist I love moisture mists in the summertime - the great thing about this one is the amino acids.  It feels like regular water but there are amazing properties in there!  I have been told it is great after laser resurfacing or other facial treatments as it aids in skin recovery.

Shea Butter I have been dragging this around in my purse for weeks now!  It is so soft and creamy, you can use this one with no digging or "warming" of the product.  This shea butter is 100% organic and unscented.  It's perfect for dry elbows, knees, hands whatever.  You can also use shea butter on your scalp as a treatment to relieve dry or itchy scalp.

If you have been looking for a line that has a natural holistic approach, check out Lotus Moon.

Product Review: Relish Shea Butter Body Lotion...

Shea_butter_2 You all know that I love Shea Butter - right??  Well this is for all of the people that wrote to me saying that they thought shea butter would be too greasy for them.  Relish Shea Butter Body Lotion is lightweight, non-greasy and smells amazing.

You get all of the benefits of shea butter in a lighter form.  It contains aloe, green tea, vitamin E and red marine algae which is great for skin repair.  This lotion is available in all of the best spas in the country including the renowned Miraval Spa where Oprah took 60 women for a "Girl's Getaway" (nice..huh??)  The  line contains NO Petroleum or Mineral Oils (those will clog your pores) and is perfect for sensitive skin.

The owner of Relish Beauty is Michele Dispensa, a gorgeous teeny tiny woman who I met in New York earlier this year (she introduced me to Bitch wine!!).  Relish also carries other products (I will be reviewing their sun care in the coming weeks).  If you try this lotion, you will be hooked, I love the herbal scent as well, my skin looks and feels gorgeous.  Miraval looks gorgeous as well and if Oprah has been there....it's gotta be good - right??

Heaven In A Bottle...

Jomalone Have you ever smelled something that just had you ... and wouldn't let go??  That's how I felt the first time I smelled Jo Malone's Nectarine Blossom & Honey Bath Oil.  It just smells delicious, like a bowl of ripe peaches.  The fragrance also has notes of blackcurrant and honey which make it all the more perfect. It is a soft foaming oil that you can use in the bath or shower, thoughtfully packaged in a plastic bottle (for clumsies like me).

They encourage what they call "fragrance combining" to create your own signature scent (something I have been doing for years on my own).  The folks over at Jo Malone however, have gone out of their way to make sure that all of the scents they offer, compliment each other.  So you can make your own signature scent and know that it will work.  No guesswork required.  The fragrance combinations are endless, so you will always be unique.

Drugstore Diva: Work That Body...

CreamoilOh how I love a trip to the drugstore!  And let's face it ladies, any excuse to shop for beauty products that don't cost an arm and a leg is a very good thing.  I was amazed at how many new bath & body products have hit the aisles recently!!  Here are the latest ones I have tried and absolutely LOVED...as well as a few oldies but goodies that I keep in rotation...

Kiss My Face Early To Rise Body Wash A minty treat of Peppermint, Spearmint, Lemon, Lemongrass, Wintergreen, Bay, Eucalyptus, Basil, Juniper & Grapefruit. Perfect for folks that shower in the morning.  Plus these products are 100% biodegradable and not tested on animals.

Dove Cream Oil Bodywash One word - AMAZING.  This is super creamy and leaves your skin feeling oh so soft and moisturized!  Now this comes in several different scents, my favorite is Rosewood...very soft.

Johnson's Softwash Melt Away Stress Oooohh this is good!  Smells divine and the scent lingers after wards!  Perfect for an evening bath or shower right before bed.

Neutrogena Body Oil My favorite for years and years.  This always comes out in the summertime.  I use this right after the shower while my skin is still wet.  Then I follow with whatever lotion I am using, my skin always stays moisturized.

Vitabath Spring Green This always reminds me of summer.  We always had some vitabath at our house!!  They have several scents but this one is so fresh and smells so great I always keep some around.

Talkin' Bout A Revolution...

P124713_heroI had heard so much about DuWop's latest jewel Revolution Face.  Everywhere I went, folks were talking about it.  So I knew I had to try it for myself.  I love a good tinted moisturizer...especially in the summer when it's hot.

I love the fact that it doesn't settle into the skin, it works like a foundation but feels like a moisturizer...brilliant.  The texture is creamy, not loose like most tinted moisturizers.  Usually, they tend to feel like they sink into your skin as soon as you put them on...not here.  I put it on this morning at 7:30 and I toppped it with a little translucent powder and seriously, it looks totally finished but natural.  Big bonus, it contains SPF 15 so you are protected from those nasty rays.

I am wearing a new color called Sally and it is perfect for my skintone - absolutely perfect.  You can find DuWop pretty much everywhere these days, this little tube of joy retails for $29.

Summer Scents...

P184105_hero I tend to like something a little lighter in the warmer months.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good strong scent...but save them for the winter time.  Think citrus, coconut, floral...nice and light.  I have a few that I have been using for years but there are some new ones that I am in love with.

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Angelique-Lilas Half plant - half floral.  I LOVE love love this!  I have been wearing it for years and it never fails.  It always smells fresh, but not too over-poweringly floral.

Michael Kors Island Hawaii The original was a favorite of mine last year, this version is more citrusy and fruity!  This special little set comes with a sarong too - score!

Bobbi Brown Beach I describe this as a perfect everyday fragrance.  Everyone should have one.  This one is light and airy with a combination of sand jasmine, sea spray and mandarin.

Comptoir Sud Caramel Pacific This is probably my favorite this year.  Warm caramel, floral, coconut, almond and vanilla.  Just delicious.  Smells like summer to me, if there was a lotion i would slather myself with it.

The Glamourous..Oooh The Flossy Flossy...

Flossyglossy I love lip gloss.  I wear it daily and almost more than I do lipstick.  It's just easier for me, plus I love the sheer look you get.  Some glosses are sticky, tacky and leave you with your hair stuck to your lips (not pretty).  Few formulas get it exactly right.

Scott Barnes Flossy Glossy is one of the ones that got it right.  This gloss is lightweight and comes in enough shades to get the look you want.  Some are cremes and some have a light pearlized sheen.  Either way, your lips look polished, I also like the fact that it comes with a brush instead of a sponge applicator.  For some reason the sponge applicators grab more product (sorry they do...)

My favorite colors are Gold Digga (LMAO) a pearly golden bronze, Copper Penny a true bronze, and Juicey a pearly tangerine.

They are scentless and flavorless for those of you with an allergy to that kind of thing.  You can find them at Victoria's Secret stores nationwide or if you are in the DC area, BellaCara a little jewel of a store that Julia told me about in Alexandria.

Undercover...

_5364355 Nothing helps out your face like a good mask.  All masks have different properties but a common goal, to help improve your skin.  Like a mini spa at home.  I have a few favorites that I have been using for years and a few new ones I have just recently discovered.

Clarins Masque Purifant Eclat This is a fantastic mask for the warmer months!  It can be used to help control oil and purify the skin but it also acts as a "drawing paste" on small breakouts.  It will help to bring them to the surface in record time.  Just dot a bit on top before you go to bed. Boscia Intensifying Moisture Pak This one Is one of the newbies.  I love this because of the marine complex.  There is so much moisture and vital nutrients in algae and sea plants!  Between that and the aloe your skin will feel soothed and rejuvenated. Kiehl's Rare Earth Cleansing Mask A wonderful clay mask that lifts off dead skin cells\, but is non stripping or drying.  You skin will still remain soft and feel super clean.

Dr. Brandt Vitamin Moisture Mask This mask is an avocado rich dream for dry skin. This one is great after a day in the sun.

Try different masks for different needs.  The ones I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg.  Consult with your skincare specialist and let them know what issues you have with you skin.  It's very important to take care of it - it's the only skin you've got!

I love stains, because they last forever...perfect for the pool.  Well Vincent Long has a new product out called Pearlessence Gel Stain.  Just like the original (which I loove), they are a water based gel so they dry fast.  You can also layer to get more color.  These new ones have shimmer so they look great in the sun.  Wear them on your lips and cheeks, alone or under a gloss...you will look polished and pretty.

Fiberwig2When someone tells me that a mascara is all that...I usually am curious enough to try it out.  This particular recommendation came from a colleague of mine.  She raved on and on about this new mascara Imju's Fiberwig.  She told me that it would make my lashes look like falsies.  I did a little research and found out it was the number 1 selling mascara in Japan, intrigued...I tried it.  Boy was she right.

The mascara itself looks really thin out of the tube, which had me rolling my eyes (please don't waste my time y'all).  What I didn't realize is that although the formula looks thin, you can see little fibers on the brush (they look like little fine hairs).  Plus it dries SUPER fast sp everytime you add a coat, the fibersFiberwig_3 attach themselves to the previous coat.  With each application (I used 6 in total), my lashes looked increasingly longer but still managed to look extremely natural.  I love this look for daytime as I don't wear all that much eye makeup during the day...mostly just a sweep of color on the lids, liner and mascara.  Fiberwig is also smudge-proof, water-resistant and is easy to remove with warm water.  No tugging or rubbing which helps diminish damage to the delicate eye area or losing your lashes!

Now, if you are looking for volume and thickness, this one is not for you.  But if you like a natural, dramatically LONGER lash...pick it up...you won't be disappointed.

More Caviar Please...

120178fMy hair is very unpredictable...matter of fact I might call it CRAZY.  It is super fine, but I have a lot of it.  It tends to be dry...but not brittle.  It is wavy on the top but curly underneath.  CRAZY.  I have used Alterna products before, but I have never tried the Anti-Aging Caviar line.  I never thought I would need any anti-aging anything for my hair, but ummm I just turned 40 so any help I can get I will  take...lol!

They say:  Infused with Seasilk®, Caviar Age-Control Complex™, Photozyme Complex™ with Color Hold™ and Marine Active that aid in Vitamin metabolism, protein synthesis and oxygen transport.

I have always liked the use of marine products in skin care/hair care.  I feel like it is an underused ingredient.  The results here are soft and manageable hair...my hair really felt so soft and we all know how much heat I use!  I used the shampoo and conditioner over a period of two weeks and really noticed the difference.  One of the best things about it that is totally random is the packaging design.  The tops of the shampoo and conditioner twist open and shut so no water gets inside to dilute the formula!  How many times have you been in the shower and you forget to close your shampoo or conditioner and the next time you go to use it - you get a handful of water?  Won't happen with these two...you will love the results.

Product Update: Tarte Lock & Roll...

P179923_heroI included Tarte's Lock & Roll in my Summertime 101 post, well silly me...I only opened one side which had the creamy shadow with a brush.  Well I opened the other side (darker color) on Monday and it is a roll on sparkley shadow!  I am a Dork...I thought lock & roll meant lock it in place (they are interchangeable just like the glosses) and roll like roll out aka on the go.  Lock the waterproof shadow on your lids and ROLL the sparkley shadow on....sheesh.

Anyway...now that you know proper procedure...go and get it.  I have been wearing it all week and loving it.  The creamy shadow has a long thin liquid eyeliner type brush.  So stroking it along the upper lash line looks really cool...then I blend it out.  You have to work quickly though because it dries fast.  I put the loose shadow in my crease and blend up.  It lasted all day.

Obsession: LORAC Gloss Stick...

P88207_hero If you are a regular reader, you know that it is no secret that I am obsessed with any kind of lip balm.  I have tested them all it seemed, until I came across LORAC's Gloss Stick.  Why didn't anyone tell me about this??  Shame on you all for not bringing this to my attention...lol!

First off, they are super sheer, they smell like vanilla (yum!) and they moisturize with just a hint of color.  Now, it does some in clear for those of you that just want the moisturization factor.  But for those that want a little color when you are at the gym, running around, or frankly...just to busy to put on some lipstick (I know how it is girl...) - the colored version is for you.  Three shades, sheer berry (my fave), sheer peach and sheer plum.  Al of them are really natural looking and perfect for on the go (I keep one in my car).

Makeup 101: Summertime...

P183703_hero Okay so here we are at another warm weather season.  I have gotten a lot of e-mails asking me to review self tanners.  I am directing you over to Beauty Addict who has declared May Fake Bake month.  She will be reviewing many many many different self tanners (she has a rating system and everything....lol) so you can get good info there.

Now onto summer makeup.  So many pretty things to choose from this season!!

Eyes
Let's start with one of my favorites, Stila's new Summer Eyeshadow Trio.  This beauty grabbed my eye because it looked like an avocado (so clever...making makeup look like food...heh heh)  The colors are soft, sheer and very blendable.  The palette is available in three different color combinations.  If you are planning to be in the water, then look no further than Tarte.  They have come up with an adorable new product called Lock & Roll.  Two dual ended color coordinated creamy shadows that are  water and crease resistant.  Top it off with Lights, Camera, Splashes waterproof mascara and you are good to go.  The mascara even has a little blue jean cover that is waterproof, and if you accidentally drop it in the water - it floats.  Genius!

New MAC Lippies...

Slimshine_390I was in the MAC store the other day with a client and there was lots of new stuff. What stuck out to me though are the new lip glosses called Slim Shine. They are dubbed as the perfect hybrid between a lip gloss and a lip stick...and I must say I love them.

The finish is smooth and non sticky, and I am told it is a gel based formula so that means long wear. Another thing that I noticed is that the shades may look scary in the tube but they are sheer and lovely on. I tested the pinkish red one called Urgent and it looked really soft.

My favorites were Scant, Prudeaux, and Most Wanted. They were really pretty and you know I got them all...LOL. In honnorable mention, MAC has re-packaged their yummy Tinted Lip Conditioner and I think it works a lot better, I snagged one of those in Plum Perfect.

Product Review: ThermaClear Acne Treatment Device

Device_15I must admit, I do have pretty clear skin.  But every once in a while, I get one of those undertheskincyst type of blemishes that hurts when you touch it.  I am not immune darlings.  What I normally do is take a washcloth and put it under boiling hot water (or as hot as I can stand from the tap) and press it against the blemish, I even massage it a little.  I do this for about 4 days until it surfaces or goes away entirely.  This is a trick that I learned from an esthetician back in the day...it has served me well over the years. That being said...heat works...no question. When I started seeing all of these heated infrared devices, I was intrigued to say the least.  If the heat was hotter and faster than my old washcloth trick then that would be worth investing in if the blemish went away faster - right??  Well as luck would have it, my Thermaclear arrived in the mail right after a huge mountain appeared on my chin.  I was excited to try it and got it out of the box.  It comes ready to use, batteries included and all.  There are two settings, hot and hotter...LOL.  The instructions were simple, one thing though...the amount of heat did startle me at first. That will take some getting used to. Bear in mind that you are only getting that intense heat for 2-3 seconds MAX so it a'int that bad. I used it for 2 days 3 times per day and on the third day, it was going down...that's 2 times faster than my washcloth!!  Now, Thermaclear is not for chronic acne, certainly not for anything that has open areas.  But, if you get those under the skin pimples that take forever to go away, this is definitely worth checking out. Stay Pretty!

Rise & Shine...

P146817_heroHave you ever wanted to wake up with perfectly blushed lips?? Well now you can my pretties! Tarte has a new double ended glossy called Rise & Shine plumping lip stain and I will tell you this, I put the stain on last night about 9pm after I washed my face and awoke to perfectly tinted lips. Honestly, I was shocked. This is a duo though and the gloss on the other side is nice and minty.

Now...I know what you are thinking..."Lianne, a stain?? I don't know will it be too dark for me??" No... it won't, I'm telling you! The perfect color is called Mauve....not too pink and not too brown. Right inbetween, and it looks fantastic. I saw it demontrated on 3 different skintones from light to dark on QVC and they all looked great. The great thing about the Tarte glosses is that they come apart so you can mix and match if you have more than one (great concept...)

You know how I feel about exfoliation, and that applies to your lips too. I am always tucking a lip balm in my son's pocket because he is forever with the dry lips! One way to fix that problem is by using a product like Tarte's FRXtion this baby contains sugar so it's super gentle. The balm is split down the middle, one side has brown sugar to exfoliate and the other has a vitamin E lip balm to soothe dryness. Hotness! Now your lips will be smooth and look pretty for the summer.

LogobeautyEvery once in a while...an online community comes along that is worth checking out. It's hard to know what isis a "worthwhile" site these days because there are so many out there.

Well I have found one!! Clutch Magazine was at one time a print publication, now they are strictly online (as many are these days...as strange as it sounds...a lot of people don't read magazines as much as they used to). The editor/creative director DeDe Sutton, is a doll and the site is really interesting to read. Their tagline is "fashion.beauty.life.culture..." and I think that sums up what they do effortlessly.

They also have great articles that have useful information ....

I Love You Nana...

Nana_1 Early this morning, one of the most gifted and amazing women that I have ever known decided it was time to sing with the angels.  Not only was my Nana an amazing woman, but she was a role model for me as a single parent.  She had been single since my mother was 7 years old, not because she lost her husband...but because she wanted to be single.  Not many black women were running around divorcing their husbands in the 40's...it just wasn't done.

She taught me many beauty secrets, gave me infinite amounts of wisdom on varying subjects and taught me tolerance.  I know she is up in heaven right now polishing the pearly gates (she hated clutter...) and making everyone laugh.  Although I miss her terribly already, I know that she is still with me...

Makeup Removal 101...

I know you all wash your face and take off your makeup everyday, but there are some basic steps that I think people miss. In this day and age, when we have so many outside factors with the environment that affect our daily lives, I thought it prudent to address how to remove your makeup properly. Makeup residue can clog your pores and leave you with skin that is less than desireable, so when you take it off make sure you take it all off.

  • Wash your hands first. So many people skip this step. It is probably the most important one. If you don't wash your hands before your touch your face, bacteria and outside elements are transferred to your skin. Bacteria causes breakouts...nuff said.
  • Remove your eye makeup. If you wear eyemakeup, use a remover to ensure you get everything off. There are seperate ones that work well for waterproof, Nana used Vaseline and a tissue...that works too.
  • Use a mild, gentle cleanser. Preferably one that also removes makeup. Always start on your forehead, and work your way down using circular motions. You can use a soap based or lotion based as long as it's mild. Purity Made Simple is my favorite for this because it takes everything off in one step.
  • Rinse...rinse...rinse. You should actually spend more time rinsing your face with clean water than you should removing the makeup itself. You don't want any residue left on your skin and you will actually be able to feel when everything is gone. If you use a toner, apply it only after you have rinsed your face a good 5-6 times.
  • Apply moisturizer and eye cream. Out of all the products you should be using, these two are my #1. You must..must..must moisturize your situation! Even if you are oily, get an oil free version. Follow these simple steps and you are certain to have a clean fresh face before you hit the pillow... Stay Pretty!!

    Tanriffic....

    P181701_hero
I am a huge proponent of suncare...I have been wearing sunblock since I could swim and I honestly believe that it is one of the main factors behind my wrinkle free skin. I also love self tanners/bronzers and they are becoming increasingly inventive as of late.

Enter Bliss Labs and their newest creation A Tan For All Seasons. This baby is an aerosol and has a built in bronzer. The nozzle has a 360 degree range so you can get it to go just about anywhere. It dries quick and is transfer resistant, the fine spray mist gives you an even coat of product. The best part? No streaking, just a gorgeous tan...

    Product Review: Sunslik Color Boost...

BbcolorboostAs you know, I am a brunette, so I am always looking at ways to jazz up my color. I tried professionnal highlights a few years back and ended up looking like a skunk (seriously...I had white stripes in my hair - ask Tiff from 99 products!!) So instead of messing with my hair I decided to try color glazes. Sunsilk has a new line out called Color Boost and I have been using them for about 3 weeks now, I am very pleased with the results!

I have been using the shampoo, conditioner and color glaze. The color glaze, I have been using once a week. They also say that when you use the glaze, you can skip the conditioner. My hair is subtly highlighted and in great condition. My mother just asked me what I had been using because she said my hair feels really soft. The website is hilarious too!! They make shades for blondes, brunettes and brunettes with auburn. So get Hairapy!!!

Lip balm shouldn't be this good!  The color is sheer BUT it also lasts way longer than most balm/glosses.  It comes in 8 shades (I like Hazelnut, Brown and Rose Petal) and is compact enough to tuck in the pocket of your jeans.

    Night Time...Is The Right Time...

P184112_hero When you care for your skin, you need to do a something a little different at night time.  When I was watching my beloved Saturday Night Beauty on QVC I must admit, I went a little crazy.  QVC has the best prices you can always get something on sale, or a package deal that you won't be able to find anywhere else.

If you read this blog regularly, then you know that I am a Philosophy girl.  I have been using the skincare for about 3 years now and my skin has been so much better for it.  Well the other night, I hit the mother load.  I tried this new kit called Change Your Skin Forever, inside they have two new products called Booster Caps and Booster Serum. Those two products alone are over $100 at Sephora and this kit was going for $91.68 at QVC plus they had all these other extras!  The booster set is amazing, my skin feels nourished but not oily.  Also in this kit is a full size of the Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash, which is gentle enough to use everyday and will give you that little re-surfacing that we all need.  This will be invaluable with the warmer season coming and people wanting to tan.  Your self tanner will go on much more evenly if you have exfoliated.

If you haven't tried Philosophy, this is the perfect way to do just that.  QVC has a few different kits, PLUS they have auto delivery so you don't have to deal with going to the mall if you don't want to...

    Intense Eyes...

P9440_hero I have never been a fan or harsh lines around the eyes.  I am always smudging and blending like crazy!  I think softer looks are better for all ages really.  So I was watching Saturday Night Beauty on QVC as usual, when I see this amazing pencil by Sue Devitt!  I was like, "I have to have that..."

That pencil is her Eye Intensifier and it is the TRUTH people!!  It comes in 9 shades and is blendable, blendable, blendable!  Not only are the colors terrific, but it's waterproof and smudge proof You can easily do a look from dramatic and intense to soft and demure.  Took me 2 minutes this morning, and that's always a good thing.  Retails for $22 at Sephora or QVC.

    Rock On...

P181016_hero I love unique packaging...and I have seen many unique packaging concepts recently.  Some that are great and others...not so much.  My thing is, I like for it to be unique, but it also has to be functional.  There is no point in having a wonderfully unique package if the pump breaks off or the lip gloss gets clogged.

That brings me to my latest find, Lorac Glam Rocks eyeshadow.  This formula is a fine loose powder but it comes in this little container that has a shaker top.  It's really lightweight but the metallic pigment packs a punch, very rich hues here.

Comes in three shades, Copper, Gold & Pearl so get ready to shimmer!  Retails for $16 at Sephora.

    Spring Cleaning...

P182412_hero I love lighter products for spring.  Don't get me wrong, I love the deeper tones that we use in the cooler months but spring is an excuse to use lighter weight products and shimmer baby...shimmer!

ModelCo Bronze Airbrush Sun Get your glow on!  I saw makeup artist to the stars Jay Manuel on the TV over the weekend use a bronzer spray similar to this one as a finisher for that final step of glow.  The results were amazing, and totally do-able.

DuWop E-Lix-r Stix Gloss Everyone is putting something good inside the glosses now!  These names crack me up but I do so love the one called Clarity, I can't stop using it!  They blend herbs and fruits into the gloss drawing on Chinese medicine as their inspiration....very pretty.

Lorac Cheek Duo This compact comes with it's own brush and contains a bronzer and a blush.  You can get a pop of color on the apples of your cheeks and bronzer for the glow....FAB.

Sue Devitt Starbrights This is just great great great!  Easy to use, throw it in your purse and you have everything you need for a nice light look.  The cheek color can be used on your eyes and is gel based so it's pretty long wearing.  Comes in 5 different shades, my favorites are Electra and Capella.

By the way, check out this fantastic post by Ben at We Love Beauty and do a little spring cleaning of your own that that makeup drawer!

Beauty News: Drew Barrymore Signs With CoverGirl...

Barrymore I feel like saying that famous saying from the 70's for Virginia Slims, "You've Come A Long Way Baby...."
Ms. Barrymore certainly has come a long way.  This former wild child has grown up.  She has become one of todays hottest and sought after film producers in Hollywood.  Her production company. Flower Films,  has produced the blockbusters Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Angels Full Throttle, 50 First Dates and most recently, Music and Lyrics.

Yesterday, it was announced that she has signed a deal with CoverGirl cosmetics that will not only have her starring in the ads and commercials but having a creative hand in the commercials as well.  The press release is below...

This afternoon Drew Barrymore was ceremoniously unveiled as the newest face of CoverGirl Cosmetics.  The star and filmmaker will not only find herself in front of the camera launching new products for the company, but also behind the camera as a co-creative director of her first TV commercial for the Brand. "I am honored to be associated with a brand that has been at the forefront of its industry for almost fifty years,” Barrymore said “CoverGirl has managed to change with the times, yet stay in touch with women of all ages and backgrounds.  To be chosen not only as the newest face of CoverGirl, but to be given the opportunity to be a co-creative director of my first TV commercial is truly amazing.”

A beloved actress and gifted filmmaker, Drew emulates the iconic image of the CoverGirl brand with her fresh, natural beauty, and energetic yet authentic spirit. Her carefree, upbeat personality shines through in all that she does. Drew is a wonderful addition to the CoverGirl family and her role – both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as co-creative director – is new and different for the cosmetics industry,” said Esi Eggleston Bracey, Vice President and General Manager, CoverGirl Cosmetics in North America.  “We wanted to honor Drew’s passions as a filmmaker and are thrilled she is not only lending her beautiful face to CoverGirl but also lending her artistic talents as the co-creative director of the ad campaign.” Barrymore represents the CoverGirl ideals of both inner and outer beauty. Tools 101...

Brow My friend Julia has been very unlucky in the makeup department recently,  She has been shattering shimmer bricks and dropping things in the toilet.  Poor thing, but she has found a way to salvage her goodies and I say bravo.  That is where today's topic comes from, tools of the trade.  I usually keep certain things in my makeup drawer so I am prepared for anything.

Powder Jar With Sifter Julia had the right idea, if you drop anything and it shatters, you can grind it up and place it in one of these...catastrophe averted and you have a $4 solution to your problem.

Revlon Makeup Eraser Pen What do you do when some eyeshadow falls on your cheek?  Wash your face?  Use Q-tip dipped in eye makeup remover?  Nope, just glide this little number over your mistake and it's gone. This little wonder erases makeup smudges and smears in one simple step.

Makeup Forever Eye Pencil Sharpener One of the best pencil sharpeners I have ever used.  The blade is super sharp and gets even the softest pencils to a fine point.

Sephora Eyebrow Palette Keep those eyebrows in check ladies!  This little kit has two shades and a wax to hold everything in place.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler The best eyelash curler period.

Sephora Makeup Sponges Great for blending, better than using toilet tissue honey.

Sephora Makeup Brush Cleaning Towelettes So you want to use this gorgeous light brown shadow but you used a super dark shade the night before for your smokey eye.  Not a problem...these will lift the color out and you can use the brush right away.

Sunburst Looking for a soft bronze look for the warmer weather but your skin is still a bit pale??  Try this new look from Tarte cosmetics. They have come out with this revolutionary moisturizer called Sunburst that has bronzing beads that are encapsulated in the moisturizer and burst on contact with skin, delivering exactly the right dose of sun-burnished glow. It’s oil-free so it won’t clog pores and the water-resistant formula is sure to beat the heat!  The result is a soft bronze blow that is never orange.  I have been wearing it for the past few weeks and I loooove it!

I adore the cheek stains so for this look, you can top it with the Bronze Goddess for a nice healthy glow and finish with Inside Out Gloss in Liquid Sunshine.  Your face will have that healthy glow without the orange-y look you get from a self tanner when you are still a bit pale.  Ease into the look - instead of going straight for the self tanner bottle!

Product Review: IS Clinical Youth Complex...

Youthcomplex_general You may remember my review of IS Clinical's Active Serum,  you know the pimple that disappeared overnight?  Well they are at it again.  Recently, I had the opportunity to try their newest creation called Youth Complex and I gotta tell you all I have to say is WOW.  I have been using the product for about six weeks now and I have noticed that my frown lines have become much softer.  There is something to be said for the saying, "You get what you pay for.." because in certain instances, that absolutely is true.

They say:  New YOUTH COMPLEX immediately increases hydration within the skin to plump fine lines and wrinkles, promotes controlled exfoliation to smooth and refine skin, while encouraging the production of the skin's key support structures like collagen and elastin. Initial results from an on-going, independent clinical study indicate that 97% of the women and men tested noticed significant improvements in their overall skin quality (wrinkle reduction, texture and firmness) within ONE HOUR.

The key ingredients (Hyaluronic Acid, Citrus Acid, Tri-Peptides) are all natural and are designed to give your skin even texture as well as smoothness...love that!  The first thing that I noticed about this product is the texture, it is very light, non-greasy and is absorbed very quickly.  I actually felt like I could have used more (you know how I am!) but I followed directions and used the recommended amount.  My results have been amazing, all of my fine lines have softened up quite a bit.

IS Clinical is sold exclusively by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, medi-spas, cosmetic physicians and medical estheticians, but I found a site that sells it online.  If you are looking for a good lightweight wrinkle cream, I would give this one a shot.

    Cocktails Anyone??

Margarita Spring is here...yahoo yahoo!  Time for lighter scents...take that pumpkin apple spice lotion and put it in the back of the drawer for next fall.  Think lighter and fragrant, and sometimes even a little familiar...think vacation!

Philosophy 3-in-one shampoobodywashbubblebath is great and they always blow me away with how real they get everything to smell.  The scents are always unexpected and original.  If you haven't tried these, you should because they smell like a vacation in a bottle - or at the very least a cocktail party.

Senorita Margarita smells so much like a pitcher of the real thing, you may be tempted to drink it in the shower...resist!  It will get you squeaky clean and feeling fresh sans tequila...  They also make a companion hot salt scrub for getting all those winter flakies off your bod.

Mimosa reminds me of Sunday Brunch in New York City at Elaine's (the best mimosas...hands down) The bright citrus scent is really invigorating for warmer temperatures.  The champagne and citrus combination are stars in this blend.

Melon Daiquiri Is like fresh ripe cantaloupes and coconut are blended together for the perfect yummy smelling treat for your skin and hair.  This one will make you feel like you are bathing in your favorite frozen cocktail.

    Bathe Pretty!!

    Handy Dandy...

200 Have you ever wanted to just toss something in your bag and go?  I have, and inevitably something ends up all over the inside!  There is nothing cute about spillage in the bag.  This is also true when traveling, with all of the new restrictions...it's tough to know what you can take and what you can't.  I was so scared that they would throw away my lip gloss last time I flew to New York that I packed everything inside my luggage and checked it!  No lip gloss on the plane was not a good look for me my friends.

When it comes to cleaning your hands, face or moisturizing on the road, you may be faced with a number of tricky situations.  You may not have access to water or maybe you only have a little.  At any rate, I have come across several handy options that I thought you would be interested in...

Comodynes Makeup Remover Towelettes this particular version is for oily combination skin but they also make one for dry skin as well.  I first saw these in Paris a while back, they smell great and get the job done if you are feeling to lazy to wash your face or if you need something to throw in a bag with no spillage.

Lush Glitterbug Massage Bar Moisturize on the go with this solid lotion bar.  They are designed to melt on contact with  your body temperature so make sure you don't leave it in the sun!  It is scented with neroli, vanilla and rose which I just loooove.  But if that isn't your cup of tea, they have 10 others to choose from.

Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Soap Leaves My favorite rosewater is all through these little slivers of cleanliness.  Perfect for travel, all you need is a little bit of water to get a rich lather going.  In addition to the rosewater, they also contain papaya fruit and olive extract which are both ingredients known for their nourishing properties.

Dickinson's Witch Hazel Pads Ahhhh one of Nana's favorites has been made into a convenient towelette!  Witch Hazel is a fantastic astringent and now they have added Aloe for it's soothing abilities.

    Stamp Your Cheeks...

Loraccheekstamp Ask me what one thing I never leave the house with and I will say something on my cheeks, well  that and my eyebrow pencil...but that's another story!  I have always thought that even if you don't have time to do anything else get your cheeks and the bridge of your nose with some color.  It will instantly brighten up your face.

Apparently Carol Shaw of LORAC thinks the same way.  She has come up with this inventive and incredibly cute blush called Cheek Stamp.  This teeny little container gives your face just the right amount of color and it's a snap to use.  There is a sponge applicator that delivers the color, and you can place it anywhere you want a shot of color.  Oh, and there are 5 to choose from...pink to bronze - Divine...

    Spring Has Sprung...

Narsshadow If you listened to me last fall, your toes should be in good shape for the upcoming sandal season.  Colors are looking bright and cheery in the makeup area and although I can't do that Proenza Pink everyone is talking about (looked like pepto bismol on me...lol), I will do rosier pinks which are more flattering for my skin tone.  One of my favorite lines, NARS has some great offerings for a nice warm spring look.

Warm up your cheeks and lips with this delightful duo from NARS called Deep Throat and Striptease.  Those names just crack me up but the colors are amazing...on just about all skin tones.  The gloss is a shimmery nude color that looks like candlelight.  The blush is a warm shimmery peach shade.  Divine!

Also I am completely mad for a few items from their new Charmed collection for spring.  The cream shadow duo is a must have for the warmer months when makeup tends to slide off as it gets hotter.  The colors are shimmery and soft platinum and gold, and the formula is a cream to powder so it has great staying power.  The shadow duos have two new colors called Habanera and Sugarland...both are gorgeous but I love love love Sugarland.  Lastly, You all know that I love a good nude lipstick and although NARS has many already this new one is called Corinthe is a creamy rich warm brown that will look great on lighter and darker skinned women alike.

    Lighten Up...

I love a good moisturizer because my skin gets super dry in the cooler months.  Now that it's getting warmer outside I usually switch to something on the lighter side and augment it with a little oil if I get drier.  My favorite lightweight lotion comes from a store I used to frequent in Los Angeles on a weekly basis...LOL.  The store was called Homebody and if you lived in LA about 10 years ago or more - you would remember it.   They used to have all kinds of knick knacks, pretty cards and jewelry.  And the homemade beauty products were to die for!  Well the store is gone now (boooo!) but a few years ago, I discovered that they are online.  Ever since, I have been ordering regularly.

Spiritbody Aloe Vera Lotion One of my favorite lotions!  They will scent the lotion for you...or you can just have it plain.  They are available in three sizes and contain anti-oxidants, sea algae and aloe vera which is great after you have been in the sun.  The scents that they have are endless so you are sure to find something you like.  My favorites are Dreams, Creamy Tuberose, Toasted Coconut and French Vanilla.  You can also custom blend a few at a time and make your own unique scent.

They also offer heavier versions of their lotions, skin care and jewel toned shower gels (which you can scent also!)

So be sure to check those out as well.

    Horsing Around...

Yhst54356107628685_1943_5911449_2 I love clean looking nails.  Just shiny and bare - it's a great look and one that I wear often.  My big issue with most clear polish is that it peels off after a few days...no fun.  So imagine my surprise when I found one that not only does not peel off, it strengthens weak nails too!  I am a recovering acrylic nails wearer so that was a great plus for me, I need all the strength I can get!

Gena Healthy Hoof Lacquer is used by horse trainers - yep you heard right horse trainers.  This is their secret weapon for giving show horses hooves that mirror bright shine.  The product produces an amazing amount of shine and my nails feel stronger after just 2 days.  It also has UV protectants....gotta love that.  My poor little nails will be back to beautiful in no time!  This stuff is great PLUS not pricey...you can pick it up for about $3.

    My Hair Looks So Good!!

Sorry I have been MIA for a few days...I have been doing my hair!!  I should have taken a photo this morning (I still may later on).  I just got a new flat iron and it leaves my beloved CHI in the dust.  The Sedu Revolution Nano Tourmaline has curved plates so it makes it easier to make your hair do all kinds of things.

At the moment I have a tousled very Victoria Secret look going on and it was so easy to do!  One of my biggest pet peeves about my CHI was that it got my hair stick straight but that's about it...and let's face it the stick straight thing has been done to death.  I am ready for some bounce and body!!  You can make soft waves, even curls as well as a super straight style.  My hair feels really good too...so thumbs up for that.  I also like that it has an adjustable heat setting, this thing goes from 180 all the way up to 450 degrees!  So it's perfect for any hair type from fragile to thick.  I would suggest using a hot iron protectant, I like Sebsatian Shaper Iron Works.

The Sedu Revolution iron is at Folica and retails for $199.95 but they have it on sale for $129.95  (a total steal and worth every penny)

    The Perfect Vanilla...

Lavanilla I have been on a fragrance kick lately.  Maybe it's because spring is right around the corner and I love smelling fresh scents in my home, in my bath and on me!  There has been a Vanilla revolution lately and I am loving it!

Vanilla is one of those scents that blends easily with a myriad of others.  It can be pure, fruity, floral or herbal...take your pick.  Each scent that it is paired with comes out smelling decidedly different and unique.  Thats what makes LaVanilla so unique.

Whether you like fruity, floral or pure essence of Vanilla...these ladies have got you covered.  Co-founders Danielle Raynor and Laura DiGirolamo set out to make their Vanilla fragrances different and unique and they have done just that. They met with chemists and decided that natural ingredients and technologies could be applied to create fragrances more refined than those typically produced by purely synthetic compounds.

Pure Vanilla is just that.  Pure smelling Vanilla blended with a touch of patchouli and tonka bean. Wonderful and clean...perfect for any vanilla addict!

Vanilla Grapefruit is surprisingly one of my favorites out of the trio.   Refreshing grapefruit, fresh lime and warm cedarwood in a base of Madagascar Vanilla.  This fragrance is unique, rich and fruity all at once.

Vanilla Blossom is an exotic floral blended in a superb madagascar vanilla base. Crushed orange blossom, rose, jasmine and karo karounde  with rich nutmeg make this a classic and sophisticated vanilla treasure.

They say:  LAVANILA carefully infuses pure essential oils with 100 percent active botanicals for natural fragrances that are fresh, clean, and nurturing. With each spray, proprietary natural technology wraps the skin with super antioxidants goji berry and kakadu plum, soothing willowherb, and hydrating olive leaf for a healthy dose of 30 essential vitamins and minerals and 19 amino acids. Imagine, a fragrance that not only smells good but also is good for you!

I say, Bravo!  They have taken one superb scent and made it different and unique in three decidedly different ways, plus it's good for you - BONUS!  Vanilla lovers, rejoice!

    Smell Pretty!

    Agent Provocateur...

91a80947 You all know that I love fragrance, and this one seems to be on everyone's radar.  I went to Agent Provocateur with Beauty Addict a few months ago, but they didn't have this one yet.  My friend raved to me about it, so I must check it out. Maîtresse is touted as a delicate and sexy blend of white ylang ylang, pure essence of Osmanthus core and Jasmin Sambac in a  base of  velvet white suede and musk.  That sounds incredible to me....I love Yyang ylang and musk - never tried them together though .. looking forward to that.  So I ordered mine today...can't wait to get it in the mail!

This fragrance sounds incredibly rich so if you are not into that then I would say pass.  My friend and I love Michael Kors, which is floral and creamy...she said this is along those lines.  If your are in the big apple, check out the store in Soho.  Everyone else can get this sexy wonder through Bloomingdales or the Agent Provocateur website.

    Flushed Look...

Tarte Many of you sent me emails asking for an alternative to the Smashbox O-Glow I posted about the other day.  Some of you said you tried it and it looked way too pink, too bright etc etc.  I can see how this product may not work on extremely fair skin.  Kristen over at Beauty Addict said, "For This Girl, O-Glow=Day Glo..." Yikes!!  Well not to fear ladies, there is a solution.

Tarte's Cheek Stain. This one is a water based gel stick that pushes up like candy.  Comes in 7 different shades and they alll have a subtle fruity scent too.  My favorites are Ticked, Flush and Blushing Bride.

Another alternative is Smashbox's sheer cheek tint called Skin Tint.  Although the colors look slightly frightening in the tube, they are actually extremely sheer.  The stick is water based and contains vitamins A, C, E, aloe, and echinacea to nourish skin while creating that flushed look that is so popular without being overdone.  I like Ultraviolet, Infrared and Heat.

Either one of these will give you a subtle flushed look without going overboard...
