Red Carpet Beauty: This Is How You Do It....

    Keisha_whitaker

Okay I have been looking for this photo ALL DAY!!  Keisha Whitaker, the woman behind Kissable Couture lipgloss (oh and she just happens to be married to Oscar winner Forest Whitaker...)  always looks amazing but this was perfection....her skin, makeup dress everything just glowed.

Red Carpet Beauty: Favorite Look at The Oscars...

Jennifergarner_oscars2008 Despite being mauled, Jennifer Garner managed to look fabulous last night thanks to Paul Starr and Chanel Beaute.  Get the look at home by using Chanel makeup.

Paul says, "My inspiration tonight was the glamour of old Hollywood; evoking the beauty of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. This was the first time Jennifer was wearing a black dress on the red carpet, so I wanted to give her a strong look Jennifer looked classically beautiful and glamorous on the red carpet."

Paul started by creating a strong, sculpted eye. He achieved this look by lining the upper and lower lash lines with INTENSE EYE PENCIL in NOIR, and then perfecting the line with AUTOMATIC LIQUID EYELINER in NOIR. Paul shaped the lids with a shimmery taupe shadow from QUADRA EYE SHADOW in DUNES, and applied INIMITABLE MASCARA In NOIR-BLACK to the lashes. He used TEINT INNOCENCE, a sheer foundation, to give Jennifer's skin a fresh, flawless radiance. Finally, Paul completed the look with ROUGE ALLURE in TENDER, an elegant beige-pink.

Red Carpet Beauty: The Oscars 2008...

    Actressesxlarger
Ehhhh....I know you are all expecting me to blog about the Oscars but I was SO not feeling it last night.  It was a huge letdown for me.  I was just honestly...bored.  The only person i was excited about seeing was Diablo Cody the blogger turned stripper turned authoress and NOW Oscar winner for best original screenplay!!  Go Diablo!!!!  She looked so Betty Paige....

Don't get me wrong...everyone looked great it was all just a little safe.  Nicole Kidman did the ice queen look, Penelope Cruz was beautifully natural...I was just not inspired.  This was also the first time in 50 years that all of the Oscar winners in the major categories were from foreign  countries.

So did you love it or hate it????  Check out the pictures and let me know your thoughts in the comments.  If you missed the ceremony and want to see pictures surf on over to Bella Sugar.

Red Carpet Beauty: 2008 Grammy Awards...

    Grammys_2008_v1

Okay first of all, Tina Turner are you kidding me????  68 years old and still doing it. She looked amazing...as did Cher minus the big red wig (yuck!) Skin looking gorgeous and flawless as ever.  I heard Billy B was doing Cher's makeup for her tour so you KNOW she will be looking flawless.

Anyway, I am definitely thinking that the older ladies (and by older I mean 50 and up people...) totally out shined and out foxed the young stars this year because honestly...I didn't know who half those people were walking the red carpet - did you??  The usual suspects were there but it was all so ho hum...Beyonce finally cut her weave to a respectable length but it is still so so blond!  What happened to that dark  look she was rocking last week??  Carrie Underwood looked nice but the hair made me thing of the Playboy Mansion, Keyshia Cole finally got rid of the blond hair blah blah blah.  I just was very uninspired with the whole thing

Another interesting thing is that half the people that I thought looked great were just there at the show, they weren't musicians or spouses of musicians - they just came out to party.  Weird.

So my picks (In no particular order) for best looks this year are:

Alicia Keys - I loved the rosey pink lips with that navy dress and totally simple Marilyn Monroe eyes.
Beyonce - I love the makeup, hate the hair...she has her makeup look down, nice and bronzey
Fergie - I know people are always giving her grief for how she looks but she got it right this time.  Very simple and elegant
Rihanna - GORGEOUS!!  Sparkly eyes and pink lips
Natalie Cole - AMAZING...no words she just looked hot and miss thang is in her 50's
Natasha Bedingfield - This is a different look for her and I liked it!  Very old Hollywood
Roselyn Sanchez - Smokey eyes and almost natural looking lips...very nice
Taylor Swift - She is only 18 people but she sure looks  grown!  Icy blue liner near the tear ducts made her eyes pop the rest of the look was smokey and gorgeous.

    Who were your favorites??

    Red Carpet: Grammy Beauty Alert...

Grammys_080115_ms I am so so so so excited!  Another red carpet - yippeee!!!  Although I am bummed Ms. Winehouse won't be there in person at least she will be performing via sattelite (hopefully she will be sober and that is probably for the best anyway....lol)

I really like the Grammy's red carpet looks primarily because since it is a music awards shows the looks are usually a little riskier (sometimes that can be a good or very bad thing...lol)  As far as predictions for looks go, one of my favorite makeup artists Cynde Watson weighed in on what she thinks will be hot this year:

"mark's makeup artist Cynde Watson predicts Hollywood is going classic this year. With the Grammys turning 50 and the Oscars turning 80 this Red Carpet Season, people will want to make a major statement in their looks, Watson said. I think we're in for a more polished and timeless approach to the Red Carpet. What beauty trend will be present? Golds will be the hot look in both makeup and accessories, Watson predicts.

Only time will tell...but for certain I will be front and center with my TiVo Live Pause so I can take notes for you.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Red Carpet Beauty: The SAG Awards - Keisha Whitaker...

How did i miss this????  Acadamy Award winner Forest Whitaker was accompanied to to the SAG awards by his DROP DEAD GAWGUS wife Keisha.  Look at her!!!  A vision in baby pink...that hair and makeup is flawless in yummy caramel neutral tones...and the gown is simple elegance.

    Well done!

Red Carpet Beauty: Best of The SAG Awards 2008...

    Sag_2
Above are my picks for best hair and makeup.  I was on the phone with Julia last night and we were both so excited about seeing a red carpet!!  You don't really know what you have until it's gone - right??  I MISSED seeing all the gowns and the makeup and the mis-steps...and if you didn't see it - TRUST me there were some.

But all in all - everyone looked gorgeous and excited.  They were ready to be out.  Some of of the men had "strike beards" which I thought was funny.  For the most part everyone kept it simple and classy.  There were a few themes I noticed - lot sand lots of nude earthy colors for makeup.  Some went the way of red...but not many.  Ellen Page looked so pretty and classic, Cate Blanchett, always a crowd pleaser looked amazing.  And I just LOVE America Fererra, she always looks great.  And Angelina just looked insane....she looked happy and glowing (maybe she is pregnant huh?)

I am so so looking forward to the Oscars if they can pull it off.  There has never NOT been an Oscars ceremony people.  The studios need to get off their behinds and just give the writers what they want.  It's already been 6 weeks (can you believe that?)

    Stay Pretty!!

Awww Helll Nawww!!: The Golden Globes Pull The Plug...

    34607882_2

Well...it was bound to happen...this writer's strike is getting on my %#@! nerves.  The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced yesterday that the 65th Annual Golden Globes are canceled. Airing in it's place the winners will be revealed during an hour-long press conference (boooooring...) - covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13.  The schedule is as follows...

    • At 9 PM EST there will be a press conference covered by NBC News announcing the Golden Globe winners. (9pm-10pm)
    • At 8 PM, they are negotiating with Dick Clark Enterprises for a one-hour retrospective/clip show.
    • At 7 PM, we will air a Dateline with clips and interviews with nominees. (Currently scheduled to air for two hours on Saturday night.)
    • At 10 PM, we will broadcast an "Access Hollywood" style, Golden Globes party show...visiting the various parties in Hollywood

Whatever.  I want my Red Carpet...I want my dresses and makeup.  I want Joan Rivers dammit!  Don't get me wrong, I am happy that the actors are standing together with the writers because after all, they are the ones that bring the characters on our favorite shows to life and why shouldn't they get a bigger slice of the pie??  The studios are just being greedy and I think that this move may just prove it to them (United Artists has already reached a deal).  What about the poor nominees??  What about the ones nominated for the first time - they have got to be pissed off that THIS is the year the writers chose to go on strike.

So no glitz, no glamour, no Ms. Golden Globes, no sitting around calling Julia and Tiffany to talk about makeup and hair-dos...roll up the red carpet.

    Glum Pretty!!

Red Carpet Beauty: 2007 Primetime Emmy Awards...

    Primetime_emmys_2007_3

There were two trends that I saw, neutral lips and RED baby.  Over half of the women hitting the red carpet had strong red lips (which was a trend that was reported last week at fashion week - they said red semi-matte lips would be back and it is BIG TIME)

That and I also saw the new lash trend that we heard about backstage at MAC of more lashes in the center of the eye (Mariska Hargitay).  I am loving the fact that everyone pretty much kept it simple - almost cocktail like.  There were a few dresses that I cringed at (Hayden Panettiere...WHY!!)

My picks above for best unfussy makeup - from left to right...

Rashida Jones of The Office, Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order SVU, Ali Larter of Heroes, Chandra Wilson of Greys Anatomy, Katherine Heigl of Greys Anatomy, Eva Longoria of Desperate Housewives, Heidi Klum of Project Runway and Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives.

    Red Carpet Beauty: The Oscars...

Oscars2007 I was so happy that my picks won, The Departed (if you haven't seen it yet - you must), Forrest Whitaker and Jennfer Hudson (more on that in a minute...) What did you think??  Overall...I thought the fashions were very BLAH.  Of course I have my 6 picks, but there were some definite whattheheckareyouthinking moments.  One of them being Jennifer Hudson!  I was so disappointed...I was expecting her to look flawless, especially given the fact that she has been doing great so far.  That Judy Jetson jacket had me scratching my head.  Her makeup was great but you couldn't even think about how pretty she looked or how great it was that she won for that outfit she had on.  The next faux pas was Rachel Weisz, that necklace was way too busy for such an ornate dress...her makeup was beautiful though and her skin looked amazing.

Now onto what I liked....Jada Pinkett-Smith was perfect as usual.  She always takes risks with color and that always pays off with her.  Her makeup and hair was simple - she just looked pretty.  Kate Winslet had soft makeup that complimented her ivory skintone and the dress was amazing.  Cate Blanchett did not disappoint in a gorgeous smokey topaz Armani Prive gown and smoldering eyes.  Jennifer Lopez kept her hair soft for a change and her dress, although it was different was an incredible creation.  Beyonce's makeup and hair was on point (thank goodness - after that Grammys mess I was hoping she would bounce back!) I didn't really care for her dress though - that minty color was a little too pale on her skin.  Lastly, Gwenyth Paltrow looked AMAZING in that Zac Posen gown and her understated makeup and red lips put the icing on the cake.

I have to say though, my favorite dress of the night was Penelope Cruz in that blush colored strapless Versace.  What were your favorites of the night??

Best & Worst: Golden Globes Awards...

Goldenglobes_best2_2 Okay...like many of you, I was watching at home last night and I must say - there weren't too many slip-ups.  But the ones that I did see were doosies!!  Now, here's my thing...if you are being paid millions of dollars to entertain the public at large, then you gosh darn better show up looking like perfection when you go to these awards shindigs.  Now is NOT the time to experiment with that new hairpiece, wig, weave or whatever.  Nor is it the time to try a new beauty service (hellooo remember that episode of Sex in the City and that chemical peel??)  Just keep it simple and elegant.

Here are my picks for best hair and makeup...

Jennifer Lopez...no surprise here she is pretty much on point most of the time.  Here she does a subtle smokey eye with a 60's inspired up-do and a off the shoulder gown...Classic.

Another favorite is Salma Hayek who just gets more gorgeous as she gets older.  She always plays up her features and sticks to a basic smoldering smokey eye formula.  Her hair was in soft waves  and she wore a white gown with lots of wrap detail.

Jennifer Hudson just sparkled with rich deep burgundy lips and a shimmery eye - perfect red carpet debut!!

Angelina Jolie looked amazing with her trademark cat eyed look and simple updo.

Honorable mention goes to Hillary Swank for that gorgeous diamond hair accessory (50 diamonds in all!) and Jessica Biel for managing to look like she just woke up looking super sexy and tan and threw something on before hopping in the limo.
